I haven't done this in a while, and a conversation with
umeedmerchant gave me a good idea, so tonight I bring you:
Songs from my childhood!
I was born in 1981, so these are mostly songs from around '85 or '86. Songs that really bring me back to being like, 5. It's totally what my friends like to call "Secretary Rock," but it's impossible to resist. Could also be called the REAL guilty pleasures list.
Dionne Warwick, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, and Gladys Knight - That's What Friends Are For In good times, in bad times, I'll be on your side for ever more! I used to sing this CONSTANTLY when I was like, 4. There is even a video of me singing it whilst wearing a big straw hat.
Hall and Oates - Rich Girl You're a rich girl, but it's gone too far, cause you know it don't matter anywayyy. Will be stuck in your head for days.
Benny Mardones - Into the Night If I could fly, I'd pick youuuu up and take you into the night and should you a looove that you've NEVVVER SEEN! Oh my god. This song is the ultimate guilty pleasure.
Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up Never gonna give up, never gonna let you down, never gonna run around and hurt you! Oh Rick Astley. The original Clay Aiken.
New Kids on the Block - Step by Step Step one! We can have lots of fun. Step two! There's so much we can do! I have seen the video that accompanied the Step by Step tour roughly 6,000 times.
Christopher Crosss - Sailing Saiiiiling, takes me awayyyyy! Ridiculous. I hate this song as much as I love it.
Huey Lewis and the News - Heart of Rock n' Roll If Huey Lewis was delusional enough to think he was keeping the heart of rock n' roll "a-beatin," we're not going to rip that dream away from him.
Kenny Loggins - Danger Zone How can you deny the theme song from Top Gun!? You in fact, cannot.
USA for Africa - We are the World I watched the music video for this song 10 times a day, every day, for YEARS. It was through this video that I got my first crush - on Steve Perry. LOOOOL. We are the ones who make a better day, so let's start givviinn!
Billy Joel - Uptown Girl I had no idea what this was about when I was 4, but I sure as hell sung about being a downtown boy an awful lot.
George Michael - Careless Whisper Never gonna dance again! Guilty feet have got no rhythm! This is possibly the BEST and WORST song on this list. I love it.
