Hotel-hunting

Oct 13, 2006 00:36

Yesterday I went Paris hotel-hunting online because I was informed (and I hate doing things at the last minute) that we had no reservations yet. I've been checking online and with the travel agency, and it's been difficult to find a decent and affordable hotel near the venue of the trade fair so close to the date (plus the net connection at work was being crappy as usual), so basically I just read a few (random) user review searches and quickly made reservations based on those and paid the booking fee online. I got home late and browsed dozens of websites (literally) so I could learn more about the vicinity and all.

What do you know? Reviews are basically good, but the hotel has no air-conditioning. There seems to be no problem with weather -- according to Yahoo's extended weather forecast, Paris will be a perfect 59°F on our arrival date with "partly cloudy skies" -- but I have no idea how reliable that report will turn out to be, or what the neighborhood will be like (although the hotel is apparently near the Gare du Nord and the Opera), but I will have to talk to my dad about it. It's a good thing our clients in Rome and Zurich have volunteered to take care of reservations in their respective areas. I apparently suck at this.

Speaking of Zurich, I got my renewed passport and should get my visa by next week. Oh, and I just realized why I've been wanting to Switzerland since forever. Remember the end of The Sound of Music (which I watched over and over back then), where the Von Trapp Family flees Austria and heads for Switzerland? Well, that pretty, pretty scene at the end of the movie has been etched in my brain since I was a kid :)

In other news, sweet_kitsch will apparently be leaving due to the call of duty soon and it sucks that I had to go attend the very tiring Informapp bowling/dinner event last night and miss her dinner :(

Also, fate can sometimes be so cruel, and pilates is making my poor back ache. It's quite fun though, contrary to what I expected.

Should take a bath and watch my One Tree Hill download now :)
