Earth is much different since the last time he walked among his children. The air is thick, colors are more muted. He remembers the first day, how crisp and sharp-edged the world seemed. How stark. It is only right that the edges have become rounded with time. The seasons and years and millennia have turned and left their mark.

He has watched and grieved and rejoiced through it all. Now the time comes when He must find a new place from which to help guide his children, all of them.

The Vessel must be chosen carefully. Of late, so many things have come down to that choice.

The boy who would free Lucifer and the boy who would contain him. The boy who would contain Micheal. He has known of all these things from the beginning, though the knowledge makes it no less painful. Neither does He find it any less necessary. Such is the way of creation.

The man Jimmy Novak is gone - his soul safely tucked away while Castiel continues to use his body.

Castiel. The name is strange as all of the names of the Host are aloud. It is this angel who draws His attention more than the others. The Host is not the same as humanity, but it does not hurt them to develop that spark he put within man long ago. It is right and good that the very first of his creations, so strong and nearly perfect, should learn from his most beloved, so fragile and apt to folly.

Castiel has learned this better than most.

He finds it fitting that he should find a Vessel here, with the angel who fears he is not enough for the Father. It is a very human feeling.
