Believe it or not, there is actual plot in this picspam. I think the episode has left me too depressed to make my shallow/slashy attempts at being humourous.
Oh, this was heartbreaking. Angela Riseborough portrayed Angelica's grief at the loss of her child so well.
King Charles: Who wants to touch me? Who wants to fucking touch me?
Charles' fanboys: Ooh! *pats him*
In a case of simple things amusing simple minds, I was inordinately amused by all of those men patting down King Charles.
King Charles is a motherfrakking pimp (with own pimp cane) whose ball just dropped! *facepalm, ponders what the hell is wrong with my brain*
My heart breaks for both of them here. Angelica is so alone in her grief and all Sexby wants to do is hold her and tell her everything is alright, yet he still doesn't feel as though he has the right to even offer her comfort. It's all so angst-ridden :(
This scene is almost frustrating. Sure she feels as though she has nothing left to live for, after the loss of her child, but then Sexby says, "I have no home if you be hanged," and she still marches to death, almost as though she is proud to be dying for one of her causes instead of trying to live life and maybe further her ideal of the moment.
Since his character is about to be decapitated, I'll just say now that I though Peter Capaldi was brilliant in this - he was just the right mix of arrogant pride, grace disappointment and a little bit of camp.
Oh the epic manpain. It's sad that the only time he feels he can be this intimate with her is when she is almost dead, as though it is only in saving her life that he feels the right to love her like he desperately wants to.
I do not ask for love, I do not ask for a marriage bed, I ask only that you let me serve you.
And the epic manpain continues. It just breaks me that he just feels so unworthy of her that he dare not even ask for her love, only for a way to protect her. And even though she will never love him, for he does not possess some radical ideal which it seems is a prerequisite to gain Angelica's love, he, IMHO, is more than worthy of it. He has done so much just in her name, all to protect her or help the cause she's affiliated with this week, that it's incredibly saddening that he will not even receive the smallest hint of the love he wants in return.
Allow me one dip in the shallow end as I say, "Fuck me, that's hot".
Let me just say that Cromwell is a frakking arse. What he did in Ireland (which I won't go further into during this picspam) was disgusting and although the episode didn't delve too deeply into what he did, just a few heartless killings here and there, I still want to bitchslap the hell out of him.
Here we go, another pretty young idealist (this time called Christian) for Angelica to fall in love with and will inevitably die. I love the composition of this shot though.
The Diggers remind me of some sort of 70's hippie cult, preaching love and peace to all of their followers. They just need the placards with peace symbols.
I thought I'd compile all of the absolutely drool-worthy shots of the South African sky into one section, just because that's how I decided to roll. They are all absolutely stunning though.
Sexby looks like he wants to bitchslap Cromwell as much as I do. Of course, he'd probably be less with the bitchslap and more with the sword porn, but I'd be happy either way.
A nice artful spray of gore there.
I'm fairly sure I haven't said this before, but Honest John Lilburne is made of absolute win. He was frakking brilliant in his trial (and I also have a strange amount of love for the one sole juror who clapped for him, only to be silenced by the juror behind him. Go on, my son!)
Oh, Sexby. You can just see his heart break as soon as he sees Angelica lean towards Christian. Yet another man who isn't him. The poor emo dear.
The crowdsurfing was probably a smidgen too much, but he can get away with it. For as I have said, he was fantatsic during his trial. In fact, I think he may be my favourite non-Sexby character.
*must get a certain Black Sabbath song out of my head*
Oh God, Simm just absolutely breaks my heart here. Angelica saying that she would never be able to love him, putting actual words to the seeds of self-doubt that have plagued him, was just so cruel, even if there is some merit in eradicating any false hope. You can tell he is a completely broken man afterwards. The near-assault, something he would never have done beforehand, is proof of that. It was deplorable and unforgiveable, the fact he pulls away and it in itself was the act of a shattered man does not in anyway justify it. But the cruelty and malice on both sides, the things that were said and the actions undertaken for the sole purpose of causing the other pain, was just so utterly painful to watch that my heart just fell to pieces.
And the Simm Effect strikes again. Seriously, I see him cry on screen and I start to tear up, I see him smile and I'll be wearing a matching one, I see him thrown against a vertical surface by the Guv or tormenting the Doctor, and I, um, well I'll let you finish that thought ;) So, obviously I'm in need of tissues at the moment...
You complete and utter wanker! Although I have to say, I am glad he ended up being a traitor and not just another radical, because if that happened for a third time then it could have gotten slightly old.
Oh, Sexby! *wibbles* Don't you just want to hug the poor dear?
