A Tale of Tattoos

Because drarryisgreen has not been the only person to ask about my tattoos, here they are, with explanations.

I've been asked many times if I ever regretted any tattoo. The answer is no, but also yes. Yes, because of the placement of the one on my right wrist, I wish I had the foresight to have had it placed up a little bit further, so that it could have been covered by 3/4-sleeve shirts. Just about every one of my tattoos have been touched up since these photos were taken.

Top: My first tattoo. Capricorn's sun sign is Saturn, that is Saturn's sign, not a "th". I hear that way too often it's not even funny anymore.

Bottom: Newest tattoo; my family tattoo. The Canadian maple leaf and the Fleur de Lis that symbolizes my French-Canadian heritage. La Flamme is my maternal grandmother's maiden name. Means "The Flame," obviously. The yellow is also significant because she loved yellow roses.

Top: A sassy looking Buttercup, from The Powerpuff Girls.

Bottom: Pearl Jam's stickman, seen a bit too much of that "limon yellow sun." :) My name in Elvish (runes), from the back of The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, because I am a very proud geek.

More geek pride: The top part is dog paws and symbolizes Sirius Black, the bottom part is wolf paws and symbolizes Remus Lupin; the colors signify their eye and hair color, movies and books. It is on the inside of my left arm.

This is an Om in the middle of an eight leaf lotus flower. The blue lotus flower is a symbol of the victory of the spirit over the senses - not quite yet for me. It also signifies the wisdom of knowledge. This also symbolizes my religion, Buddhism, and it's Eight-Fold Path. This is on the outside of my left arm.

This is the easiest one to explain; a Celtic butterfly, birthday present a few years back. On the outside of my right arm.

Quite possibly my most favorite to explain. Speak-a the Scottish slang? Well, is says YOU are crazy. Ootay = out of, yir = your, box = head. Out of YOUR head. I'm not the crazy one. It's you. :) A backwards Scottish flag in the heart because of all the weird shit I've read by Scottish author Irvine Welsh.

Pearl Jam's three 'man' songs. Betterman, Nothingman and Leatherman. This tattoo has been updated and now has 'of the hour' under the 'MAN' in the same font but orange, for their song Man of the Hour.

My final Pearl Jam tattoo: Love Boat Captain, a song by the band. I have no clue what the lightning bolt is supposed to be all about (maybe it's their homage to Harry Potter?)... Add one more unexplained thing to the world of Pearl Jam and Eddie Vedder. Or, if you prefer, it could mean Lupin/Black Companionship. Wasn't that what we came up with H?

I would love nothing more than to be able to get a tattoo to represent every major fandom I am a part of, mainly that damn star with wings around it for Supernatural (green and blue respectively, of course), then maybe some blood dripping from a pair of vampire teeth for True Blood, or a Cyberman's head for Doctor Who. See what tattoos do to you? I want more, all the time!! And I desperately want a tattoo on my foot and my finger.

Another reason for all the tattoos is a short, but important story. I used to work at a local mall's Walden Books. I remember seeing this lady, probably in her 70's or 80's, come in to the store wearing a Boston Celtics jersey. I remember thinking: If she's proud, at her age, of what she's wearing, then I'll be forever proud of what I put on my skin. True story.
