WHAT IS THIS. I DON'T EVEN. I swear, sometimes I'm just a big gooey mess. :B I love Lily/James so much, especially wibbly, lovesick James. HE IS TOO CUTE.

VERSUS

"Who do you think's winning?" Sirius asks, watching James and Lily yelling at each other from the comfort of the shade. He picks up a leaf between two fingers and twirls it for a moment before tossing it over to Peter. He bats it out of his hair and murmurs something to himself, still poring over a book, trying to catch up on an essay due the next day.

"No one's winning," Remus answered, trying hard to be annoyed with Sirius and failing rather miserably. Sirius yawned and stretched his arms out wide, flopping with a languid, surprising grace into Remus' lap. He grinned. Remus rolled his eyes. "Though I suppose I'd put my galleons on Lily, were I forced to choose."

"She always wins," Sirius said. He pouted a little, running a hand up Remus' leg. Remus grunted and jerked away, giving Sirius a prim, disapproving frown. Sirius ignored him, as he was always wont to do, looking up at him from the ground with an easy smile, his hair fanned out in stringy tangles around him. "Not fair, really," he continued, sitting up on his elbows. "Prongs doesn't even have a chance."

"What are they arguing about now?" Peter asked, his voice short.

"Hardly matters, does it?" Sirius answered, rolling over onto his back.

Remus exhaled. Sirius was, at times, exasperating. "As far as I can gather... Lily is berating him. Again. I think for homework this go 'round."

"Lily, I - "

"I don't want to hear it, James! It's excuse after excuse with you."

"Harpy," Sirius muttered.

"You're just jealous she's taking your Prongs away."

"Not going to dignify that with a response," Sirius said in a manner his mother probably would have been proud of. Peter sniggered and Remus turned to hide a grin.

"You think you're wonderful, James, don't you? Just perfect," Lily said, her voice rising.

"No! That's not it at all! I don't - "

"Well for some people it's not as easy as all that."

"No, Lily, I never said that... What I meant was - "

"I don't care what you said, Potter. If you think I'm stupid, then - "

"But I don't!" James blurted. He wiped his forehead nervously. Sirius and Remus looked on with interest, and even Peter had turned his attention away from his book. "You. That wasn't what I meant at all, Lily. I don't think you're stupid. I think you're brilliant."

Lily took a step back, obviously bewildered. Her cheeks turned a little pink and she shook her head.

James, who was apparently encouraged by this, took a step forward and gave her a tentative smile. "You are. You're brilliant and a bit lovely. Well. More than a bit - you've got those really green eyes and freckles and your hair bounces, did you know that? There's a little curl there sometimes and I watch it and it sort of..." Whatever look Lily gave him made him trail off and after a very awkward pause James cleared his throat. "You're just. Really perfect."

"James," Lily said, and her voice had gotten quite shrill. James lost almost all composure around Lily and when he wasn't making a fool of himself trying to be suave he had a tendency to stick his foot in his mouth.

"Think there's any way he's coming out of this one?" Sirius asked.

"He did just compliment her, mate," Remus said. "I don't think she'll hit him now, at least."

Lily pointed at James, her ears still red with anger. "Don't think you can. I can't just forget what you said, you know, and don't think that just by saying all those... all those things about me that I'll just - "

But she wasn't able to finish because James had stepped up and rather abruptly stuck his mouth to hers.

Sirius blinked. "Well."

"Guess I was wrong," Remus said, looking pleased. "Lily, three hundred and twelve. James..." He laughed. "One."
