Another story connected with my private teaching, this time about my regular student. He's about 35, I'd say, and possibly not the most socially well-adjusted guy, for example when I did a trial lesson with him he asked for advice on meeting Western girls, and then another time when talking about break-ups he told me that he was devastated every time one of his relationships ended as he was broken up with. (Although the last one isn't so bad, could just be a sign of sensitivity).

Anyways, at the beginning of the last lesson, for some reason he told me that he was a misogynist, which I didn't really know how to respond to. He clarified by saying that it wasn't that he had any particularly extreme attitudes, but rather that Japanese society as a whole was sexist, and that neither men nor women here were interested in changing things, which seems like a mostly accurate statement to me. It's just that it's only the second time I've been told such a thing, and when someone's paying you money to sit and talk with them, it's difficult to be objective...
