before I go to bed

I just have to shamelessly announce that I've been marathoning My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and it's actually damn good. As in, if you like cartoons at all you should take a peek because it's genuinely sweet, funny, and smart (oh and the animation is gawjusss).

First thing to note is one of the (female) creators of the Powerpuff Girls (and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, which was also awesome) is the lead on this series, and you can see the intelligence in those series went into this one. It's definitely for kids, but like all the best cartoons it doesn't talk down to them.

Also, not gonna lie, I love that the cast of this show is 95% female. This is great mainly because you see female characters doing anything and everything-- studying, physical labor, running shops, being pretty princesses, being jocks, and hell, even the mayor of the town is female. There are female protagonists and antagonists. This show has gained a following among teenage nerdy boys, so of course there are choruses of "bawwww why aren't there any more cool GUY characters?!?!"

You know what, girls are expected to look up to male characters all. the. time. There are plenty to choose from; I highly doubt that one show without them is going to do any harm to the boys of this world. It sure is doing the girls some good, and it could do the guys some good too.

To sum up my feelings on this show:
