Well I have to go see the Breast Surgeon on Tuesday. The sonograms look benign which is good but they might want to do a biopsy anyway. So we'll see how that goes. They are the experts on boobies!
I got a phone call from my doctor today. She got the sonograms of my pelvic area and said I have a mass on my right ovary. If I recall correctly, she said it's got parts of it that are not fluid filled so it could be a cyst with complex parts or a cyst with dried blood, which is endometriosis. I wikipedia'd it when I got into work and I had a lot of the symptoms before going on birth control when I was 20.
For example:
Symptoms of endometriosis can include (but are not limited to):
dysmenorrhea - Painful, sometimes disabling menstrual cramps; pain may get worse over time (progressive pain) also lower back pains linked to the pelvis
dyspareunia - Painful sex
Nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea - particularily during PMS and the period (I get super gassy lol)
Heavy and/or long menstrual periods.
Some interesting things:
Current estimates place the number of women with endometriosis at between 5% and 20% of women of reproductive age. About 30% to 40% of women with endometriosis are infertile, making it one of the leading causes of infertility. However, endometriosis-related infertility is often treated successfully with surgical destruction of the disease.
My mother had what it seems like to be symptoms because she had 4 miscarriages before me and recurrent miscarriage is one of them.
Hereditary factors play a role. It is well recognized that daughters or sisters of patients with endometriosis are at higher risk of developing endometriosis themselves, for example low progesterone levels may be genetic, and may contribute to a hormone imbalance. A recent study (2005) published in the American Journal of Human Genetics found a link between endometriosis and chromosome 10q26.[8] One study found that, in female siblings of patients with endometriosis the relative risk of endometriosis is 5.7:1 versus a control population.[9]
Of course these were on wikipedia and we all know you can't 100% trust that site. It seems pretty legit to me tho. The doctor said it's a very slight chance that it's malignant, especially with my age... so we'll see.
So I guess I need to find an obgyn and get poked and proded again... and get checked out. She said they might want to do an MRI and I may end up need surgery.
