I found this on someone's LJ, and I just had to add to it. I think that, to date, one of the best books (singular and not in a series) I've ever read is Terry Prachett and Neil Gaiman's book Good Omens. On top of being the most screwed up telling of the apocalypse, there's lots of humor and child-like simplicity. It's just totally awesome. Though I think I'll also always love the LOTR books. Who wouldn't?
