Last Sunday(July 16,2021) Tim and I celebrated our 22nd Wedding Anniversary. Time has sure flown and yes, we have packed a lot of fun into those 22 years.
Tim and I met in a chat room on the Internet in the mid-90s and it was truly a long-distance relationship - Back and forth from Toronto to Seattle we went whenever we had time and funds. Air Canada was very pleased with this ;-) We were not. Eventually I moved to Seattle and later we decided to wed.
Both of our families lived on the East Coast, so we decided on a very small West Coast wedding, perhaps by a Justice of the Peace in the garden where we lived. We thought of our beloved Ruby Beach, but the logistics proved too much. Our friends Bob and Shannon, who would stand up for us, kindly offered us the use of their house and garden. So on a sunny and hot July 11, 1999, in what we figured was the shortest wedding ceremony on record, we were married by Judge McIntosh in Burlington, Washington. A group of friends helped us to celebrate.
A. Hawaiian theme had evolved from a suggestion by Tim’s sister MaryJane. Our planned casual Jeans and T-Shirts were replaced by colorful cottons. I picked up a red and black ‘wedding dress’ the day before, and Tim found a colorful Hawaiian shirt. One of the guests made me bouquet. Everyone wore leis, and the wedding cake was decorated with hula dancers. A wonderful salmon barbecue and party followed. The day was full of laughter and fun.
Later, Tim and I set off for a three-day honeymoon on the west side of the Olympic Peninsula. From our headquarters in Forks, we made trips to some of our favorite places - Neah Bay and Cape Flattery, Rialto and Ruby Beach, the Hoh Rain Forest and, on the way home, Olympic Hot Springs Road and Hurricane Ridge. It was absolutely perfect for us.
Fast forward to last Sunday July 11th.
Last year we were in the throes of moving here and forgot all about our anniversary, so when it rolled around this year we decided to celebrate by taking Tim’s Mom to lunch at ‘The Boathouse - a sea food restaurant we all enjoy. I decided to wear my ‘Wedding Dress’. Normally I would be much too shy to wear a red and black floor-length dress but I did it. The restaurant was packed and I got lots of looks so I just smiled. Most folks smiled back. It was fun. Me - I still can't quite believe that the dress still fits after 22 years!
Here’s to 22 more years of mirth and merriment with Tim.
I asked Tim to take a quick picture of me in my dress. Here it is
