I was going to say something inappropriate about Bones always being up for the job. But then I realised it was inappropriate. And kind of said it anyway.

I like that you don't demonize Winona or Frank, just let them be people frustrated with the situation they find themselves in--and the child who is acting out and they're really clueless help. The rest of this reads very much in character for the movie, and I love the end, where Bones just keeps pushing in and refusing to back off and does take care of him.

I'm not a huge fan of all the fics where Winona and Frank are made out to be these horrible, despicable people - I mean, the little we saw of Jim in Iowa was that he was impulsive and reckless and irresponsible. I bet his parents had a tough time raising him, and it won't have been completely their help.
