Welcome to the New Year

It's the 17th of the new year and I haven't updated- oops!

My holiday in Thailand was awesome :) Gorgeous weather, relaxing but interesting. Definitely the break me and my parents needed. I'm not adverse to the 9-5 lifestyle (I've been working it since September), but when you can't take any time off it does seem to stretch before you like a prison sentence a little... I'm looking forward to leaving when the new permanent receptionist comes in, but I will miss that place. The people are all cheery and willing to stop and have a chat, and have never failed to give me help and advice when I've needed it.

However, I do plan to switch down from 37.5 hours a week to about 25. Like I said, I'm not work-shy (the opposite, I enjoy being busy). But at the moment I'm also trying to build up a portfolio and sort out a website, which I struggle to do when I can't do voice recordings (my parents are in by the time I get home) and can only use my computer for a couple of hours a night. I'd like to release at least 2 one-shot audio dramas before I go back to uni, as well as update my Deviant Art with new work and sort out a portfolio website.

Panto week started today with a semi-disasterous tech/dress rehearsal. None of the backstage crew had seen the script, and the cast hadn't been told where all the costume changes were. We realised too late that Sharon and I needed more than 1 minute for a full costume change (our main costumes are *not* easy to get off in a hurry) so we had to rework a musical number.

Mind you, I did my part as stage combat choreographer today :) And I must say, I'm pleased with the result. Katie and June liked what I'd planned out, and remembered it when they got on stage to perform it. And I overheard someone say 'looks better than just 'clack clack clack' left and right'. Job done :)

I asked dad to drive me to the Fort shopping park yesterday to look at phones. And bought one. A Samsung Jet; I'd had a play on it at Grand Designs and liked the interface, and had already done some research on functionality and contracts. I turned down an iPhone, but after explaining my reasons the salesman agreed I'd made a good choice. Haven't had a chance to play around with it much, but if it's anything like my old Samsung phone it'll serve me fantastically :)

I currently have no house to live in come September. But strangely I'm not as stressed as I would usually be. I know I'll end up living somewhere- it may not be what I wanted, but I'll be back in Stafford and back at uni. That's all I want really :)

And my mood about the whole thing has been lifted by Sarah L- barely an hour after me Tweeting about the loss of 4 Riverway, she got in touch to say she was likely to have places going in her house, if we'd like to live with her. I don't know her as well as I'd like, but I do know I get on with her, she is a genuine and kind person, and I can imagine her being a great person to live with. It's doubly handy, because she'll also be on the Games Design Masters in September, the same as Jake and me. Three masters students and a third year, if the best case scenario plays out!

Even if it doesn't, I'll never be able to thank her enough for all the help she's given :)

If anyone has Animal Crossing on DS and wants to share a friend code, please comment with it- I'd like more friends! :D

Also, if anyone else has Left4Dead2 on Steam or City of Villains, let me know ;)
