Whoa. Went on for a bit, there, didn't I?
I went to the CC volunteer picnic yesterday! God, I love this shit. I signed in and was given a raffle ticket, which immediately got me a LOTR “Limited Special Edition Siege Troll Design Maquette” (which is basically an 8 inch bust of a troll and his helmet). I pretty much thought “Awesome! Now what the hell am I supposed to do with it?!” I still haven’t quite figured it out, yet.
Went over to a lady who looked bored and introduced myself, and I ended up talking to her and her husband for the hour and a half before the raffle drawing (they’ve been married for nine years and are still obviously, demonstratively, in love - awww!), after which they skedaddled and I went over to what I hoped was the art show group. It was (score!) and I secured myself a place volunteering with them at the con. (The big prize for the raffle was a two foot tall Hungarian Horntail statuette! XD! I love geeks.)
Most people left around 1:30, but I wasn’t getting picked up ‘till 2:10, so P.K. and Jared stayed and kept me company (and I’m not going to bother making up nicknames for con people-sorry. If any of you stumble upon this, hah! Too bad). The conversation of said time included both the mundane and side-splittingly funny (“Wait, you’re into overweight gay bondage?” “NO, I said ‘I’m not going into a dungeon unless there’s fat LOOT, NOT fat Lou!’”)
Of course today I have a HORRIFIC sunburn, because I was the idiot who forgot sunscreen, so I didn’t even go to the meeting today at the convention center, which I really wanted to go to. :(
But! I did finish my book about space pirates (Warchild by Karin Lowachee: EXCELLENT BOOK! I don’t even like sci-fi as a genre [in novels], but this one’s top notch!) and I watched all three LOTR movies. :D It’s not my fault! CC makes me feel validated as a geek. I even have a Dinosaur Comics desktop wallpaper right now.
Job hunting tomorrow…wish me luck!
