Thinking of what to wear this Halloween?
Star City invites the public to enter the realm of costume role-playing (Cosplay) with a special double-header presenting tricks, and treats, for creative minds.
Enter a world of pure imagination by attending Star City’s exciting Mad Lab Weekend on October 24-25, where you can conjure up alien robots from common everyday items you wouldn’t have expected. Members of Cosplay.ph will conduct hands-on workshops where Star City visitors can learn how to use low-cost materials to create costumes of every shape and size.
Mark Cerezo, well-known for his Morgul Lord and Optimus Prime costumes which were recently displayed during Cosplay Mania, will handle an Inter-Galactic Weapon Making workshop for young learners up to age 15. Cerezo is an expert in making props and full costumes out of rubber. He has won awards for Cosplay contests at this year’s Toys and Collectibes Convention and at the 2008 World Cyber Games.
Teaching audiences aged 15 and above how to make costumes from ordinary household materials will be Guy Singzon, who was behind the stunning Mandarin Spawn and Female Predator Costumes. Although relatively new to cosplay, he has wowed everyone by creating costumes almost entirely from recycled material.
Starter packs for the workshops will be sold onsite during Mad Lab weekend at very affordable prices. Only 100 workshop participants will be accommodated on each day on a first-come, first-served basis. Pre-registration through the Star City sales office will be allowed.
Supplementing Star City’s “costume art attack” on Mad Lab Weekend will be a parade of extra-terrestrial creatures and robots who will march around the country’s top amusement park.
The following weekend, Star City will host three fun-filled days of contests and activities designed to bring out the “evil genius” in everyone.
On October 31, Star City spotlights Filipino folklore and mythology through “Ang Mahiwagang Daigdig ng mga Duwende, Lamanlupa, Atbp” Park visitors are invited to come in costumes inspired by Filipino oral or written literature, as well as local fables or legends. Exciting prizes await the winners.
November 1 will feature Mask-making. Blank white masks will be provided to interested participants, along with scrap cloth, paste gems, sequins, and other material. Relying solely on creative imagination, audiences can make their own masks, which will then be judged by a special jury and offered special prizes.
On November 2, Star City hosts a huge Halloween party as it invites contestants to join the Build-Your-Own-Monster contest. Use your ingenuity to craft costume characters - robots, monsters, or anti-heroes - all from original design, and win special prizes.
