Great pictures and story as well....I see what you mean about the bike being higher up-not how I pictured it in my mind. I'm glad to see a picture of you seeming truly happy! You also look quite tan! Are you getting into California looks? Are you headed for the Pacific? Come down to Texas. You know the song, by Lyle Lovett? It was featured in the IMAX Texas movie "that's right you're not from Texas, Texas wants you anyway"
the tan: 10 hour days - outside. indeed. and it *feels* better than riding in any car. after the last back injury...i was more encouraged to find an al mode of transport...
ok, that should read "alt" as in "alternative mode of transportation." the taxi killed my back! and then the tree-work injury, and then the farm-work injury...blah, blah. this is good, now, and i am smiling.
Dude! Thanks! At some point - not sure when - I should cross through Az. Any advice about "do see" "don't bother" "watch out for" would be most welcome!
Cool! AZ will welcome you with a blast of hot air and sun like a heavy hand and, if you go to the right areas, otherwordly landscapes.
So many things are worth it. When you have a better idea of when you will cross through and what your route will look like, let me know and I will come up with something more specific than "see the entire state."
illinois is very cool about that: (1) take the class; (2) pass it; (3) take completion card to DMV; (4) get license - no questions asked.
i knew a number of people who lost legs/feet, when i was younger. stupid, unlucky, etc. i was good this time around: took the class, passed it; waited a year, took and passed the class again. different instructors = different experience. if i could have stood the videos a third time, i'd have gone back again.
here, the MSF course if free - if you get in as a walk-in - or $20 donation, if you pre-register.
The California rider course is $200, passing course means:
Take only written test to get license Lower insurance
My boss is a biker chick and she highly recommends the course since they provide the helmet and usually two types of motorcycles. They also offer an experienced rider course that's supposed to be good. Plus the weather here is conducive to riding most days of the year, so pretty much a win-win situation. However, I'd take it if I also have the money to buy a motorcycle as well, or it'll turn out like spending $500 getting my PADI certification and not having gone scuba diving since.

given the current gas prices, i will be very surprised if cycle/scooter popularity doesn't increase dramatically. we'll see.
thanks! and good luck!
