A pet peeve

Is it just me, or do people have no sense of etiquette when it comes to things like, say, escalators? That is, it's a pretty straightfoward thing- if you're just going to stand on the escalator, you stand to the side so other people can pass you! That bothers me, too. Whenever I'm with someone who refuses to walk up an escalator, I always make sure we're both to one side on separate steps.

Maybe I'm odd, but maybe it's because it's a common mentality not to even walk when on an escalator. That, and they tend to be narrow, causing personal space (touching) violation, which is a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge no-no for alot of people. (Some, like those I encounter on my trip to Acen each year, are barely wide enough to fit a standard suitcase ( ... )

See, the problem is that there's some places around here where there's ONLY escalators, no actual stairs. That, and just in general, it's impolite to block the way when other people might want to get by. Even if someone isn't in a hurry, they might just prefer to continue walking and get some exercise rather than just standing there.
