Three for the price of one!

A trilogy of drabbles for y'all, this evening. Also, yes, I love Bon Jovi. Not ashamed. ♥ I'll bunch all three under one title, I think, but they're separate - kind of like Lord of the Rings, I guess. Okay, I'm babbling. I'll shut up. XD

Title: Lonely
Pairing: Malcolm & Angus (I know, I know. But I can't write anything else D: I 'know' those boys best!)
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Implied incestuous content, angst
Disclaimer: Neither the people nor the songs contained herein belong to me. Please don't sue, because I'm poor.
Summary: Angus knows Malcolm's only telling him what he wants to hear. It doesn't sit well with him at all.
Author's Notes: Yeah, I love Bon Jovi. LOL. Also, collective title comes from this song by - who else? - Bon Jovi, from their awesome Lost Highway album. Because certain lyrics (There's a whole lotta lonely / Waiting out there / When love is blind / Sometimes the lies can get you through the night) fit, methinks.

If you don’t love me - lie to me
‘Cause baby, you’re the one thing I believe
Let it all fall down around us, if that’s what’s meant to be
Right now, if you don’t love me, baby - lie to me
Lie to Me - Bon Jovi

Malcolm knows that he’s only saying this because it’s what his brother wants to hear. Pillow talk to calm nerves that know better, to soothe a jittery mind for a few precious moments before the truth thrusts its brutal way into things again. He wishes he could feel a little more guilty about telling Angus these things, hollow endearments and sweet nothings with no real sentiment behind them, but he’s always had trouble with guilt. He doesn’t feel it at all. So he brushes Angus’ hair aside and kisses his ear, whispering another meaningless “I love you,” into the delicate whorl.

If that’s what it takes, that’s what I’d do
Tonight’s the night, I’m gonna prove it to you
Do I have to break down, baby, just to break through?
If that’s what it takes, that’s what I’d do
If that’s what it takes...
If That’s What It Takes - Bon Jovi

Angus knows as well, of course, that Malcolm is pandering to him. He knows because he can feel the tears slide slowly down his cheeks, Malcolm’s fingers brushing them away, and he closes his eyes the way he wishes he could close his heart. So easily affected, because Malcolm is everything to Angus and he would do anything to hold on to him. Even if that meant lying here silently and pretending to be seduced by the honeyed words he knows Malcolm doesn’t mean. If that’s what it took, then Angus would do it. The tears would continue to fall as he continued to allow himself to fall, impact waiting malevolently beneath him.

My heart’s breaking even, now there’s no use we even try
Hey, I cried, yeah, I lied, hell, I almost died
Don’t got a reason
Let’s just fold the cards and say goodbye
It’s alright, just two hearts breaking even tonight
Hearts Breaking Even - Bon Jovi

Rose-tinted glasses are not Angus’ usual eyewear. His vision is twenty-twenty, thank you very much. But as those words fall from Malcolm’s lips, the glasses fall from Angus’ eyes, soured to a deep, fetid scarlet - like blood. He wears blood now, thankfully not in his eyes, but dripping down his sleeve from the shattered heart he openly wears there.
