Paid Parental Leave.

More thoughts on Tony Abbott's recent policy announcement. Firstly a question to the Socialist Alliance, What have you done with the real Tony Abbott?

My first thought's when he said he'd introduce Paid Leave were:

1) How is it going to work for self employed people ( at a guess it'll be based on taxable income for the year before which may, just a little bit, lead to some interesting income management ).

2) Can blokes be the primary caregiver under this? Because if they can then odds on the way for people to rortmaximise their outcome under the system is probably for the male partner to take 6 months off to look after the child. I don't know the statistics on age difference between partners in a relationship (and I can't really be arsed looking it up ) but I suspect on average blokes are older, but even so they certainly earn more. And it becoming the norm for men to take six months off to look after a newborn could quite frankly have the potential to be culturally revolutionary.
