A bit more holiday fun
By the way one thing I didn't mention last post is that we had lunch at the Rosevears hotel, It's hsitoric claim to fame is that it is the longest continously license pub in the country and it does very good meals, at a reasonable price with an incredible view. Also no pokies or Keno. Certainly worth a visit thought you'd probably have to drive past Daniel Alp's at strathlynn.
Anyway we spend some time in Hobart while Jen went to her conference. Mostly taking the kids swimming in the hotel pool, though I did venture down to the
Grandvewe Cheesery and bought some cheese and some Lamb Kransky, which was pretty good. Went back via Peppermint Bay and a loverly chocolate cake, and left when Dom became afeard of their lobsters ( they store them in a water feature out the back.
Then after the conference we headed off to Bicheno which is on the east coast and is a stunningly beautiful place. The
view from our accommadation, which is
for sale, was truly stunning. The night we arrived we had dinner at the local french resteraunt at which Jen a rack of lamb, which was the best lamb I have ever tasted. It was moist and suculent and lamby. The chocolate mousse however proved too rich even for my boys, such a shame that we had to finish theirs.
Next day we went to the small beach near where we were staying, which involved crossing the highway on foot, going down some old stone steps, climbing over a fence and walking across a paddock full of sheep to access the small beach. It was a nice place to wander, and apparently had a penguin rookery at one end. I know this because I saw some penguins in various states of decay, didn't tell the kids that though. That night we went on our penguin tour which was lots of but not quite the right time to see lots of the birds come up. Dominic however loved it.
Finally the last real day of holidays and we drove off to the mount elephant pankcake house, which is in the middle of nowhere, between bicheno and st mary's. I had a chilli con carne crepe. Then for a drive up the coast to scamander and back via the
Ironhouse brewery. Where we fed Sebastian and I did a beer tasting and bought a couple of extra.
Then home, via barrilla bay oyster farm restraunt( worst service we'd had in tassie), flights were good, to find I'd left a window on the car down in the long trem parking. Nothing thefted but Seb's seat was very damp.
I'm sure i've forgotten something but hey.
