There seems to be a collective belief amongst a large set of "political insiders" that Kevin Rudd will call an early election.
Bollocks. The earliest he can for a joint Reps/Senate is 7th of August 2010 which is a year and a half away. He could go a Reps only election, but what would be the point, there is no upside( you don't get to increase your senate numbers) and their are the potential downsides, losing government reduced majority, pissing of the electorate, getting the reps and senate so far out of whack it's not funny.
As for a Double Dissolution. There isn't a trigger, yet. And I can't really see a issue that you'd campaign on at the moment.
Or perhaps the people claiming there will be an early election are Liberal leaning individuals engaging in a bit of wishful thinking.
