lazy sunday

today was lazy, but kind of productive at the same time. my goals were to do my christmas list, go shopping for pie supplies (i'm making a chocolate cream and a pumpkin pie for thanksgiving), read harry potter 7 (yes i finally started it!), and update my velvet worm blog, which i've been meaning to do for a while. i finished the shopping and updated my blog, and i worked on the christmas list, although that is proving difficult. does it mean i'm growing up if i'm having trouble thinking of a lot of stuff i want? so far all it has on it is a few movies, a couple cds, and a laptop (which i kind of doubt my parents will buy me...i'll probably have to pay for at least half of it). i might put a digital camera on there too, because the one i have has no audio, but i'm thinking maybe i don't really need that. i wish i had more cool travel supplies that i could ask for, but i'm not travel-savvy. YET. i'm going to read harry potter 7 after i'm done updating this, so that will complete my to-do list for this lazy sunday.

i had my EAP orientation on friday, and i was the only one there who is going to pietermaritzburg. hmph. my advisor said there is another ucsb girl who is going there, but she is in ghana right now, and she's going to do the programs back-to-back. i wonder if she's spending the whole year in south africa or only doing a semester. that's a lot of time to be out of the states. there was one returnee from pietermaritzburg, and she only had good things to say about it. yay! so i'm super-stoked now. more so. i also figured out that my parents missed the first EAP payment that was due november 1st. oops. the girl who was sitting next to me said she missed it too, though, so i figure we're not the only ones. usually EAP sends out like ten e-mail reminders, and i didn't get anything saying i hadn't paid them, so what's up with that?

yesterday i went on a field trip to oso flaco lake for my terrestrial vertebrate class, which basically consisted of driving for a half hour, stopping by the side of the road to identify some birds, getting back in the car and driving for another half hour, identifying some more birds, and so on and so on. for hours and hours. the only terrestrial vertebrates we saw, other than birds, were a raccoon and some cows. i like birds, but they get boring for me. i kept hoping we would see a reptile or amphibian, but no dice. we did see some cool spiders and a large beetle, but surprisingly, not many people were interested in those other than me. :D

right now i'm drinking hot chocolate with cinnamon in it. mmm. i love it when it's cold like this. goodnight.
