The new Diagon Alley set...

May 18, 2024 20:04

And now I've completed the provisional model of the new Diagon Alley set on Mecabricks. It's a cute build. 76439 Lego Harry Potter Diagon Alley: Ollivanders™ & Madam Malkin's Robes and once yet again, they've changed the naming conventions in contrast to last year's set, eliminating the 'Diagon Alley' bit and including the second shop in the official name. No idea why, they're just making my OCD tendencies go bonkers. (Actually, I do have an idea why, and it's because the main stores are included in the D2C 75978 Diagon Alley set, so they're undoubtably trying to boost visibility for the 'hook' sets in the Diagon Alley-lite series, but that still doesn't soothe my desire to have it all nicely match. Marketing peeps, you know this is just going to cause the tidy little spreadsheet of sets to fail, right? feh)

This is what the WIP looks like so far. It's not too far off, but the round bits between floors are impossible to guess from what little I can see and the resolution I have. I'll update them when the instructions and inventory lists are released.

Here's what the sets look like when paired with last year's 76422 LEGO® Harry Potter™ Diagon Alley™: Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes™ which includes the Owl Post. There's a little weirdness in that the Harry and Padma minifigs from the new set are are firsties, and they'd be sixth years in the other set, but it's not like we haven't plenty of Harrys, now is it?

The scale feels good and even the Owl Post doesn't look too dinky. The concept art for the street had a number of tall thin buildings, and it's right in keeping. The obvious replacement piece is the wand. We'll be getting new wand pieces in the Ollivanders set, but mecabricks obviously doesn't have them yet.

lego sets, minifigs, mecabricks, hbp, new releases, coming soon, ps
