Tumblr

Honestly, I thought Tumblr was super dumb at first.

The entire "microblogging" phenomenon sort of happened while I had my back turned, and so I'm always a step or so behind each new microblogging fad. To me, Tumblr is a hyped-up, super Twitter. It's sort of formatted for short posts, with no place for comments or replies, a way for the user to get a thought out to the universe (like Twitter, only it's streamlined to be super easy to post anything from text to pictures to music).

I had a Twitter for the longest time before I started using it, and once I started using it, I sort of realized how bad I am at microblogging. It's incredibly difficult to phrase what you're doing in an eloquent, funny, or exciting way using under 120 characters and not sound like a total moron. So, I sort of stopped posting, simply because I cannot find any words to type, and when I do post, my tweets are things like, "is at the movies", "is going to sleep". Eloquent and exciting, right?

I like Tumblr more because it doesn't limit you in the space you have to write. I could post this to Tumblr if I wanted, which is great! But, no one can comment on Tumblr, which is useless. Half of the reason I blog is because I want other people to know what I'm feeling about something, and I want to know if they feel that way to, or what they think of the stuff I'm posting. The other half of the reason I blog is because I have no life, but that's irrelevant.

Anyway, point is that I'd be addicted to Tumblr if I had a life interesting enough to microblog about. But I don't. And I give serious props to people whose Tumblr pages are actually interesting. Like Andrea's. :)
