(no subject)
Hello, everyone, this is my first help request here, so I'll try not to make a mess of it. I'm having a fair bit of trouble locating a fic that I've stumbled upon only once or twice in all my tours around the Remus/Sirius corners of the web and somehow have never managed to save, and I was hoping that someone here would know what I'm talking about. Generally I'm very stubborn about hunting things for myself (I have been looking for this one for what seems like forever), so I never really think to ask for help at it. (I also feel terribly guilty requesting the help here when I'm never quick enough on the post to aid anyone else in their searches). But memories of this fic are festering in my brain and now I've just got to post with a plea for assistance.
I remember a good number of specifics about the fic, I think. Hopefully I'm not mixing anything up in my head.
It's MWPP Era and there is a Yule Ball (or maybe just a general dance type event, but I seem to recall it having a fall/winter setting, but I could be mistaken) at Hogwarts. Sirius asks Remus as his date, but Remus gets angry at him because he thinks Sirius isn't being...serious, and even when he becomes convinced that it isn't simply some joke on Sirius' part, he's still very reluctant. So he refuses up until the very last minute when he realizes the sort of strange lengths Sirius has been going through for the ball. James has been trying to corral Lily into going with him and assumes that she's been ignoring him as usual, and he and Sirius hatch this bizzare plan where Sirius is going to dress as a girl and go as James' partner? Remus finally agreeing to go with Sirius leaves James partnerless, of course, so he has plenty of opportunity to pester Lily at the ball. He's shocked to find Lily in attendance with one of her female dormmates and makes a comment to Peter (?) about the odd sort of couples that are suddenly cropping up? Remus and Sirius spend the ball having issues with each other and fellow students (Remus compliments Narcissa and Lucius Malfoy makes derrogatory remarks back at him regarding Remus' date), but come to an almost comfortable understanding in the end. James discovers in a confrontation with Lily where she accuses him of poisoning her roommate's cat, that the cat ate the invitation he sent to her. Lily had apparently been waiting to recieve the invitation, and becomes a little cross with the roommate, who had agreed to attend with Lily because James had apparently never asked like she had been expecting, for her cat's behavior. James later says that it was good of her friend not to leave Lily alone. Sirius and Remus sit outside where they've got their own small fire and Sirius is toasting confections over it. Remus uses the line "I'll be your boyfriend if you give me that" when craving the treat Sirius has been busily creating.
I feel like it was a multi-part fic in maybe three or four chapters. It was a cute story and it's really haunting me not being able to find it. Please, does anyone have the slightest clue as to what I'm talking about?
