Best subjects: He's a good student, in most subjects although he has a special love and contempt for Divination (he takes it because it's easy credit, total bullshit and he can con his way through). He does not hide this contempt from anyone except the teacher.
Worst subjects: He's not particularly bad at anything but Muggle Studies always made him uncomfortable.

David was raised by his Muggle mother in a trailer park in Barstow, California till he was eleven years old - under the name of Winston le Grange. At eleven his father appeared and after long discussions that Winston was not privy to, Winston was declared not to be Winston but to be one David Shaw, and was told he was leaving with his father that night. Soon after he was enrolled in Hogwarts and his life as one David Shaw began.
He doesn't talk much about his muggle upbringing (or muggle mother) although he has retained a love of muggle music and popular culture.
David is a con artist at heart (if he actually has a heart, sometimes that is debatable). He's always looking for the perfect scam and tends to see other people as potential victims. He's charming when getting his way - or trying to get his way - and a complete asshole when he isn't.
He and Lilah have been an item since 3rd year. They're not the most loving couple. But then, they're not the most loving people, so that works for them.
