Yes indeed. Welcome to the Pegasus Galaxy, Mr. Woolsey. If you're upset about not being able to trust the rules, get McKay started on Newtonian physics and you won't feel so bad.
I wonder if it's so much that Woolsey is a slave to the rules, like any good bureaucratic automaton, or if he will perhaps bring a bit more thoughtfulness to the occasionally knee-jerk reactions or just plain short-sightedness which have marked SGA so far. He is right that the rules are there for a reason (those of us who also watch House will remember a similar speech this last season). However, a great deal depends on who wrote the rules, and how much they understood about the realities to which the rules applied. Based on that first staff-meeting, it would seem that Woolsey's knee jerks just as much as anyone's, but I can hope that the writers will use his introduction to find a balance between over-caution and "shoot first, ask later."
TPTB pretty clearly started (continued from "Trio"?) setting up the idea of McKay/Keller. This drives me batty. This is not just because I'm a McShep girl. Yes, I think Keller understands and can handle McKay better than Katie ever did. However, we all know that McKay will mess it up (because he's carrying a torch for Sheppard, duh), and I like Keller too much to watch that. That and I worry that Ronon would kick McKay's ass.
I'm also wondering if someone on the writing staff reads fanfic. That whole conversation between Keller and Teyla at the beginning about Rodney visiting Carson? Yeah. I'm pretty sure I read that fic. Also? Think about all of the h/c fodder. Think about what Sheppard's done so far this season. He's been trapped under a beam. He went on a very dangerous rescue mission while still suffering injuries from said beam. He volunteered to be a guinea pig. He flew a jumper through the infirmary walls and was then impaled by whatever the hell took over Keller. And next week it looks like we get an episode of Ronon-whumping. Yeah. That's all I'm gonna say.
