[fic] Cuento (Uruguayan NT, gen)

Jan 07, 2011 13:09

I'm back in DC, I have Internet, I'm horribly behind on emails and comments and the flist and just about everything. Rather than catching up on any of these things, I'm reposting my Yuletide fic, because I'm obsessive about having everything on livejournal.

A bit about the request: I was 80% sure I wouldn't get football slash when I signed up, ( Read more... )

football, fic, yuletide

GAH. I DID NOT EVEN BOTHER TO CHECK THE FICS IN THIS FANDOM WHEN I WAS FRANTICALLY SEARCHING FOR YOUR FIC!

But the fic!! I love it! It feels very...velvety (well this is a poor choice of word but I don't know how to describe it; like the feeling you get when you eat something really good and you just revel in the sweet aftertaste it leaves in your mouth? Well the fic flows in such a way that it evokes a similar feeling in the aftermath.)

And even better because my knowledge of the Uruguayan NT is summed up by Diego Forlan and Eduardo Galeano's writings. So it was a nice insight into the dynamics of the players involved!

HAHAHAHAHA THEN I WAS HIDING PLAIN SIGHT *ROLLS AROUND GIGGLING*

eeee, thank you so much! :) Writing this was a chance to find out a lot more about the players who play in the smaller European leagues or outside Europe entirely. I'm particularly fond of Jorge Fucile now, as I believe the fic makes obvious. *g* Though I didn't realize for a surprisingly long time, that, well:

OMG THEY LOOK ALMOST IDENTICAL. Not fully but ALMOST.

Now I must compulsively Google and learn everything I can about Jorge Fucile. *Opens Google tab*

Also today I went ahead and gave into fannish temptations and got not one but FOUR Raul/Mori icons.

¡ORIENTALES, LA PATRIA O LA TUMBA, LIBERTAD O CON GLORIA MORIR! :D

OMG, if I weren't already crushing on this NT so badly, I definitely would be doing so now, after having read this fic. The camaraderie between them is just fantastic, and you wrote them so incredibly well, mixing all those events that actually happened (like the smiley face on the tactics board, OMG, how I died laughing when I saw that!) with the fictional parts, and... ah, this is just amazing, I love it so so much, I can't even say how much because there are no words in any language I know that could express this. :D

Hee! :D You wouldn't believe how long I debated with myself over whether to use the original Spanish or a translation, and whether the term "Orientals" would be jarring/offensive to readers unfamiliar with the anthem... (Obviously, in the end I decided it would.)

This was such a delightful comment to read - I want to clutch it to my chest forever! omg, the moment I saw the tactics board was when I knew I was in love with them. (My other favorite, ahem, tactical formation is this one from the Scotland vs Sweden friendly earlier this year.)

Just in case you haven't read it already (because as far as I know it hasn't been posted to LiveJournal anywhere), the person for whom I wrote this fic ended up herself writing an adorable Uruguay NT story in the same exchange - it's called freedom we shall also shout and I highly recommend it. :) (And the number of shared themes between our two stories is coincidental and hilarious ( ... )

YOUR ICON! Aww! :D

Oh, I actually do like the fact that you translated the anthem here because the original, especially with the orientales, might have distracted people from the actual story, and that would have been a shame.

HAHAHAHAHAHA, trust the Scots to be fucking awesome yet again. XDD I love it when the players occasionally make time for a bit of fun and silliness. :D

I haven't seen that other fic yet, so thanks for the link, I'll check it out as soon as possible! :) And I didn't notice you'd started subscribing to my journal either! I'm a bit made of fail recently always, actually. *LOL* So thanks for telling me that as well, and welcome to my journal, I hope you'll enjoy it and I'm looking forward to discussing stuff with you! :)

hey, so i'm a little late to the party here but i've developed a huge crush on luis suarez as of late and i was going through his tag at footballslash. imagine my delight when i stumbled upon this! it's fantastic! oddly enough i love genfic more than anything else so this was just perfect. their camaraderie, the omnipresent videocameras- everything was spot on.

Aw, thank you so much! Gen hijinks have become one of my favorite things to write in this fandom. :) And I'd noticed your Suarez posts with delight! I'm super excited he's coming to the EPL, especially to a high-profile team like Liverpool.

In case you haven't seen them yet, Yuletide resulted in a couple other Uruguay NT fics, too - here and here, the second being Forlan/Suarez. :)

HOW DID I NOT SEE THIS.
It's late-at-night-brain-fry-time again so this comment won't capture even 5% of what I want to say but !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this captures them exactly how I remember them, playful and lighthearted and adorkable and yet with this indomitable spirit, with garra charrúa, oh, this is beautiful.
