It is very, very rare that Adam gets to dance with anyone he's not related to.
He attempts to rationalize all of this with it's just Chloe, come on...
"You can stop acting like I'm going to laugh at you," he says flatly, putting one hand lightly on her waist. "How can I laugh at you if I'm dancing too?"
He gingerly takes hold of her other hand. It occurs to him that they probably look like middle-schoolers trying to avoid cooties, but he's not entirely sure she won't hit him or snark at him if he moves any closer, so he doesn't.
"Thanks. Thanks a lot." He rolls his eyes, and reluctantly moves close enough that they're dancing like adults, hand settling more comfortably on her waist.

UST? Chloe has NO IDEA WHAT THAT IS.

"Thanks," he says absently, the compliment not really registering until he thinks for a second.
"...Chloe? That...might be the first nice thing you've ever said to me."

He readjusts his hold on her waist a little.

The you're a better analyst than I could ever dream of being is just assumed and unspoken, which is why it all kind of hurts to say.

"I never understood why people cry at weddings."

Chloe starts and her eyes bulge.
"Uh.. except, not like at Ryan's funeral." She looks away toward the other dancers.
