It is very, very rare that Adam gets to dance with anyone he's not related to.

He attempts to rationalize all of this with it's just Chloe, come on...

"You can stop acting like I'm going to laugh at you," he says flatly, putting one hand lightly on her waist. "How can I laugh at you if I'm dancing too?"

Aw, logic. Hasn't ever been Chloe's friend. So she just shrugs.

He gingerly takes hold of her other hand. It occurs to him that they probably look like middle-schoolers trying to avoid cooties, but he's not entirely sure she won't hit him or snark at him if he moves any closer, so he doesn't.

"I was wrong. This is more awkward then if I were to dance with Jack or Ryan."

"Thanks. Thanks a lot." He rolls his eyes, and reluctantly moves close enough that they're dancing like adults, hand settling more comfortably on her waist.

"If it is, that's not all my fault."

"It's not my fault either. I'm drunk, remember?" Maybe if she keeps telling herself that, everyone else will believe her too?

"Right, because anyone would have to be drunk to dance with me, I'm sure."

More eye-rolling. He sways lightly in time to the music.

Chloe snorts. "No. Not necessarily. I mean, you're a good dancer." Chloe puts her hand on his shoulder and looks over at Jack.

UST? Chloe has NO IDEA WHAT THAT IS.

Ah, UST. Adam knows it well. Which is why he's not even trying to look around to see where Kim is.

"Thanks," he says absently, the compliment not really registering until he thinks for a second.

"...Chloe? That...might be the first nice thing you've ever said to me."

Chloe looks back at him. "Are you sure? We worked together for a few years.. I would have thought I had said something nice in that time."

"Well, maybe..." He thinks. "Okay. Maybe more like second or third."

He readjusts his hold on her waist a little.

"Yeah, I thought so. You were always better then me at handling the people aspect of our job. I'm not a people person."

"Yeah, well..." He sighs. "The people part wasn't as important as the technical part. But thanks."

The you're a better analyst than I could ever dream of being is just assumed and unspoken, which is why it all kind of hurts to say.

Chloe's eyebrow twitches a little, but she makes no retort.

"I never understood why people cry at weddings."

"Neither do I." He'd thought he was the only one. "I don't get the whole 'crying with happiness' thing in general. It's weird."

"I don't think I've ever cried with happiness. Everyone was crying like at Ryan's funeral."

Chloe starts and her eyes bulge.

"Uh.. except, not like at Ryan's funeral." She looks away toward the other dancers.
