HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!

Aug 19, 2008 11:30

Ah sorry I was so late! Indonesia's Independence Day is August 17th, but I've been feeling not too well since Sunday so I just got the time to sit and make a post now.

Let's rejoice our 63rd year of independence - come to think of it, I'm just the third generation of Indonesians living free on this land. Free from the rule of the Dutch, the Japanese, the British, the Portuguese, the Spanish.

But our fight hasn't finished; it's far from it.
We still have to fight against poverty, injustice, neo-colonialism, neo-imperialism, poverty, and against forgetting--forgetting our past, our mistakes, our pains, the forgotten sons and daughters of the Republic like Tan Malaka, Widji Tukul and countless others; forgetting the fact that there are still fellow Indonesians out there drowning in poverty while we're sipping our expensive coffees and playing around with our gadgets in airconditioned cafes.

Oh, about my students who took their IGCSE exams last season:
Two got straight A*s for the five syllabi they took;
another five got A*s for biology,
some others got A, B, and C for biology.
I'm SO GLAD AND PROUD.
