Comiket @ Gelar Jepang

May 15, 2007 22:00

Before I gave you my story about the Comiket at Gelar Jepang, let me tell you what we had today first. We had two lectures by two Swedish professors - named Per Sundberg and Urban Olsson from Göteborg University. The lectures are part of the celebration of Linnaeus’ 300th birthday. Yeah, instead of Mozart’s, I chose to celebrate Linnaeus’ birthday *grins*. The Swedish ambassador was also present. He was a funny man, I can tell. We also got to see the preview of the film Expedition Linne (there will be a separate schedule for the full-length version). From what I saw, I think the film’s a very interesting and fascinating one. The cinematography is just WONNDERFUL!

Now on to the comiket. The comiket at Gelar Jepang was not a big one, there was only 5 stalls, although some stalls sell doujinshi of more than one circle or doujinka.

amamiyarin cruelly asked me to buy two volumes of Iconalzoo’s TeniPuri doujinshi (truly gems, if I may tell you) and I had to drink their specially made Inui Juice. You don’t, I said don’t, want to know how it tasted like. Eeeyagh.

But it all was fun, yeah, because:

1) I got the chance to gather with fans of ShinMegaTen and Kaneko Kazuma. We talked about so many wonderful aspects of the games, and we fangirled - er, fanboyed too, since Edsa was there - over Kaneko’s designs. Our laughters roared at the design of the demon Mara - because he looked like a gigantic penis. There’s another demon that looked like a vagina, and Edsa told us that he saw one kind of Kaneko’s demon that looked like a man with a bishounen’s head sucking on his penis. Kaneko is, in Edsa’ words, truly ‘one sick bastard’. LOL.

2) I got the chance to gather with fans of Mamahara Ellie. Quite unexpected, eh? Until about some time ago, I often think that I’m alone on the boat, but in fact, there are other (massive!) fans of her work here. We seemed to agree that her best (BL) works so far were From Dusk Till Dawn and Macaroni. We screamed when we saw this particular colour illustration of ‘Deep Black’ that Ellie made. It was so not her; it depicted rear-view of the black-haired character (I don’t know his name yet) squatting on a gargoyle, and the colouring was done with cell-shading. Ellie, as far as I remember, had never done cell-shading before, and the result was striking. I’M SO WAITING FOR THE TANKOUBON. And last April, the drama CDs for Yakyuu Tengoku and Deep Black were released!

Another funny thing. Miku called penis teripang - ‘sea urchin’. I knew she’s a biology student at UNJ, and so I asked her how’s her study going.
She answered, “Oh, I’m going to have my defense soon.” I asked her about the object of her research. “Urm, I study sea urchin.” OOOOH LOL NOW I KNOW.

BTW, Omoikane’s Digital Devil May Cry is still available - I keep 6 of the copies that’s left while Zell keeps 4. The price is IDR 25K (+shipping cost), with a bookmarker as a bonus. Do contact me if you’re interested.

Quote of the week:
Ted Viper, of Mamahara Ellie’s Macaroni, as translated by Sara & KT of Hochuuami:
*cynically to Sydney Rush* “I’ve heard the rumours about you too, Sydney. The double pistol packin’ master bodyguard.. but… They say that the one that gets used most is the one in the holster in the middle.”
