Aaaaah-tlantis... to Interzooonee... Right, if Klaxons are that contagious, I'm afraid to listen to The Automatic's Monster *grins*
1. 22 Grand Job - The Rakes, Towers of London, Bloc Party, Maxïmo Park, Art Brut
Orgy! I wish I were there!
2. Who the Fuck Are Arctic Monkeys? - Arctic Monkeys
That’s what we’ve been longing to ask, my cute Monkeys. Has anyone seen a picture of Alex Turner in NME Yearbook 2006? I just wanted to kidnap him the instant I saw that picture.
3. Well, Love Does Furnish a Life - Larrikin Love
4. Happy as Annie - Larrikin Love
LARRIKIN IS SIMPLY LOVE. Perhaps the best band I’ve come across this year. The part I love the most of ‘Happy as Annie’ is when ‘Edward’ (I presume the ‘I’ in the song must be Edward) found that ‘as I tried to get her to speak / I realised that the little girl wasn’t asleep / I moved her straw hat to find her face was gray’. A cute song with haunting lyrics.
5. From Atlantis to Interzone - Klaxons
Am I catching the new rave? I don’t know. The one thing I know, weird as this song about nowhere places may sound, it’s very catchy.
6. Ballad of Human Kindness - The Dears
7. Whites Only Party - The Dears
The singer has this sexiest voice I’ve ever heard since Crispin Hunt’s.
8. Riot Radio - The Dead 60s
We need conscience. And I’m saying this after I chose not to vote for new Banten governorship!
9. Apocalypso - Mew
Perhaps the darkest song I’ve heard in 2006. And it comes with a scary video. And hands up who understands the meaning of the song! Care-lines, care-line stumped it up? Black waves come so fear me, December? What the?
‘The Zookeeper’s Boy’ is also still a heavy rotation on my Winamp, by the way.
10. Sam’s Town - The Killers
11. Where the White Boys Dance - The Killers
Yes, yes, shut up. I have a difficult relationship with the Killers, but still I have to admit that their new album contains some attraction to me. And ‘Where the White Boys Dance’ is just so sexy I want to eat my own Converse.
12. Welcome to the Black Parade - My Chemical Romance
OK, so Gerard Way walks around pretending to be the Patient, and perhaps he deserves some golfballs because of that, but the song is simply beautiful in a Queen way.
13. Chelsea Dagger - The Fratellis
This is the song The Fratellis performed when they seized the stage after the unfortunate accident involving Panic! at the Disco members and some flying bottles at Carling Weekend: Reading Festival. How can one not dance when one hears the song?
14. We Are All Animals - The Rakes
Biologically correct (although simplified), and representing the grim reality that we have to live with.
15. Full Moon (demo) - The Horrors
Tomethy’s keyboard sound! Oh my god!
16. Club Chez Moi - The Ordinary Boys
The boys are having an affair with Fred Perrys, I am sure of that. Their first album was hard to listen to, the second was worth full-spinning every time, and the third offers many exciting new elements.
17. Hard to Beat - HARD-Fi
What is ‘Hard to Beat’? A diska (that’s disco + ska) anthem? A love song? A socially-conscious subtle form of expression?
18. Is It Any Wonder? - Keane
I relate more to the lyrics. Is it any wonder that I feel betrayed? Somehow I feel it’s the sensitive Tim speaking through Tom’s throat.
19. America - Razorlight
Say what you may about Razorlight’s sophomore album, I love it, especially this song.
20. The Diver - Stellastarr*
And you can also say anything about Stellastarr*!
21. Don Gon Do It - The Rapture
22. Whoo! Alright Yeah... Uh Huh - The Rapture
‘Pieces of the People We Love’ is the strongest candidate to be my album of the year - so there!
23. The Adventure - Angels & Airwaves
Tom de Lounge proves to be the smartest one out of Blink 182 - and he’s back with an astrally-sounded band. Just compare Angels & Airwaves and +44 and you’ll know!
24. Hounds of Love - Futureheads
I’m sorry, I know it’s 2006 and I should be listening to Skip to the Beat or its contemporaries, but I could not get this song out of my head. It’s just so emotionally intense.
25. Soul Meets Body - Death Cab for Cutie
‘Plans’ is also an amazing album. Death Cab for Cutie at their most-listenable.
And especially for
lemoneko: The Horrors pic spam. The pics are easy to find in their MySpace account, but then it’s still tempting to pimp them here (and add my own captions).
The bigger picture (and other pictures) are under the cut.
This is perhaps The Horrors best picture I’ve ever seen! Well, there’s another picture in NME Yearbook 2006 that I also love to death, but then this picture just imprints the band’s image strongly in the mind of anyone who sees the picture. The most exciting element from the picture must be the umbrella that Coffin Joe holds!
(Yes, the name's Coffin Joe: and there are also Joshua von Grimm, Spider Webb, Faris Rotter, and Tomethy Furse. You believe they're their real names? Ahahaha.)
Eh, wait... they have scanned the NME Yearbook pic. Here it is:
How can they just see anything with their big hair? Faris here reminds me of Borrell, btw.
See what I meant about the hair?
Of course having your pictures taken at a cemetery is compulsory, to live up to your name, when your name is The Horrors.
CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW TO GET LEGS AS SKINNY AS THEIRS????
This is from Tomethy's MySpace (OMG I'M TURNING INTO A MYSPACE STALKING BITCH) - things in brackets are mine:
Age: 19 (!!!!!!!)
Orientation: Not sure (!!!!!)
Birthday: 11th March 1901 (sure we believe that etc.)
Status: Single (*Tyas gets bricked to remind her that the lad's 19 while she's a quarter of a century*)
Do you get along with your parents: Yes indeedly
By the way, his friends said that Faris surprisingly doesn’t shave enough... His facial hair somehow doesn’t grow as fast as any other man’s. How cool - or how cute - is that? If you read this, Faris, leave me your number, we’re going out on a date.
And because Larrikin = Love:
Eh, eh, tangannya Edward nakal ya...
This is the bigger picture.
Beginilah kalau kaum gipsi digerebek polisi.
Perhatian: Gipsi dilarang bunuh diri di sini!
Damai... enak... tenang... beginilah hidup kaum gipsi...
Cayang cayang Edward... (saya juga mau Massss!)
Necklaces? Check! Not so fresh rose? Check! This is this year's killer style!
