So yesterday morning, I started the application process for GVSU's Masters in Biomedical Sciences program. I started filling out the app online, and am waiting to hear back from possible references to complete the rest of it. They don't require letters of rec, but I'm going to try to get at least 2, and throw in my resume as well. I don't think it'll hurt. I've decided I just need to go for it, otherwise I'll be mad at myself for years for not even trying. I think I'm cutting it pretty close from what the dept. head told me, but it's worth a shot. I haven't taken the damn GRE yet, but I (finally!) registered for that today. I'll be taking it on Feb. 17, right before the 'rents come down for a visit. Not a whole lot of time to study, but I've heard it's one of those things you can't really study for, and it's become kind of a now-or-never situation. *sigh* If I do get in, it'll give me yet another option (and even tougher decisions, yay), and if I don't, then at least I tried, and I'll know it probably wasn't meant to be right now. No time like the present, seeing as I'm unemployed. No more excuses. It's time to take action on some of my goals. I suppose that's all you can do, right? So here's hoping, especially for good luck on the GRE.
As for jobs, I'd applied for 2 a few weeks ago. Haven't heard anything, so I'm assuming I'm out. The biggest prospect right now is another barge job that may be starting up in a few weeks. I haven't heard anything recently, but the last I did hear it was just waiting on paperwork to process and scheduling and all that. I really hope I can get on it, I've got a good word in, and I'd really like to be on a schedule & have a steady income again. Unemployment is good, but you can only stay on it for 6 months, so here's to finding something that works out before then. :-P
Stuff with N has been going well. We haven't been spending as much time together b/c it's really crunch time & he's been working on his dissertation a lot. (& by that I mean seeing him 1-2 times a week. I love dating a guy I get to see more than once a week, this is a first!) Man, if anything ever convinced me not to get a PhD ever, it's this. I definitely wouldn't be able to stick it out. I'll be elated if I can just get a Masters. His birthday is tomorrow (okay, today if you want to be really picky) & I'm not exactly sure what's going on. There may be surf, so if I do see him, it'll be sometime after dinner I think. I have presents I can't wait to give to him. I'd love to take him out to eat to our favorite nice seafood place, but we'll see, it's entirely up to him. Heh, he's quirky, and I'm having a time trying to figure him out. I think he's got me figured out for the most part, but his sense of humor & quietness I'm still getting used to. All part of the fun I guess. I need some good ideas of stuff to do. We sometimes get in the "I don't know, what do YOU want to do?" rut & 'round it goes. I've suggested a walk somewhere, or a beach picnic when it's nice out. Hard tho, b/c most of the stuff to do in town costs $, and that's been hard to squeeze out lately. Any suggestions would be great! :-)
Millie & Steph came down for a visit last week! Holy crap it was awesome! We got together several times, most of them involving drinks and other friends from the barge job (watch out, we're a crazy bunch!). It was really fun to see everyone again & laugh & yell & just enjoy being silly again. The last day we went down to Mote in Sarasota b/c they'd never been there. It was a gorgeous day, & we actually got to see turtles & manatees, tho we didn't get any stickers for our hard hats this time :-P We ate lunch & headed down to Venice Beach for shark tooth hunting! I was most excited for this part b/c I'd never been to VB, but had heard about the shark's teeth that wash up. Unfortunately none of us found a megalodon tooth, but we did have a lot of luck with the smaller ones. See 'Tagged Photos' for recent pics. Now I just need to figure out when I'm going up there, & make sure my car won't crap out on me. Whee!
I got two new cds today - The Airborne Toxic Event s/t, and American Steel's 'Destroy Their Future' Both are wonderful, I highly suggest you check them out. More on that later mayhaps.
