why did I get rid of my Draco icon?
I have fallen back into the dark abyss that is Harry/Draco fic. It seems to be my backup plan for reading material when my current regular fandoms don't produce what I want anymore or not enough of it. SGA still hasn't let me go but there is only so many times I can reread the same stories over and over again. It's not that there aren't new stories or old stories I have never read but instead of branching out my taste has narrowed down to only John/Rodney all the time. I am no longer even reading pairings I used to like or gen. I just want to read John and Rodney being stupid for each other, and nothing else.
Then there is Bomb Girls. I love, love, love Kate and Betty. Yes, I am all over a femslash couple, I am shocked myself. I never feel the urge to ship female characters but they are the best. There is even a fandom on Tumblr, and people are writing stories and making art and vids. But it's not enough and not enough of the things I like. (For the record, I am keeping track of Bomb Girls fanworks on my pinboard account - u:acari/t:bomb.girls. Recs are starred.) Did anyone watch season 1? I wish Bomb Girls had more of a journal presence, oh well, the times they are changing.
And then last week out of nowhere Harry Potter happened again. I think someone posted a recs to a recent fest story. I didn't much care about the story in question but ended up pretty much the whole of Sunday reading story after story. And they are all fairly recent, maybe a year old, so I don't already know them from my last bout of Harry/Draco cravings at the end of my Lotrips time. The fantastic thing about HP fandom is the abundance of long stories. I had forgotten how much I loved those long, involved storylines and the world building. I read a story where Draco was a ghost at Hogwarts and another where Draco turned himself into a portrait for epic revenge-taking on Harry and I'm currently reading one where Voldemort used Draco as the vessel to bring about the end of the wizarding world, the last book happened, Voldemort died and then everything got worse. I am still all about Draco. I love that miserable wretch.
Anyway, I have read about 300-400,000 words of H/D fic in the last few days instead of preparing my thesis defence. And I got a sore throat. I have bloody fantastic timing.
