Ich weiß, ich weiß, Wessis sind auch nur Menschen und für Leute in meinem Alter und jünger kann ich das nicht so unterschreiben, aber ich muß zugeben, dass ich mich beim Lesen von Schnauze Wessi!: Showdown beim Elternabend im Stern herrlich amüsiert habe.
Es hat nach 20 Jahren nichts mehr mit Mode und nur noch selten mit Dialekten zu tun: Wir fallen einander auf, weil wir nicht weiter auffallen, was den anderen vermutlich nicht mal auffällt, weil sie damit beschäftigt sind aufzufallen.
Holger Witzel schreibt eine ganze Kolumne über Ost/West Kram. Muß ich mir bei Gelegenheit mal durchlesen.
Der Balkan verschwindet. Ein Gespräch mit dem slowenischen Philosophen Slavoj Žižek in der NZZ über Europa, den Balkan und die EU. Ich bin auf den Mann aufmerksam geworden, als ich am Wochenende bei Aljazeera ein Videointerview (Englisch) mit ihm gesehen habe. Er scheint interessante Ideen zu haben, ob ich seine Meinungen teile, kann ich noch nicht sagen.

pslasher is compairing the characterisation of Karl in both Lotrips and Trek RPS. I remember Lotrips Karl very well, but I never read Trek RPS. I now I'm feeling a little nostalgic for fandoms past.
Speaking of fandoms past, there is wank in LotR fandom. There are sockpuppets and fake-deaths and Münchhausen-by-internet.
what's love got to do with it: my thoughts on *fail by kalichan about love and fandom and race and freedom of speech.
So, hi. I love Georgette Heyer and Dorothy Sayers. Neil Gaiman. Amanda Palmer. I love Ender's Game. I love Lord of the Rings and Buffy and Doctor Who. Supernatural. Merlin. I love War for the Oaks and Blood and Iron. All of these creators and creations have demonstrated failures of principle - failures of rightness, and I acknowledge this. And I think we should talk about it. Let's pull them to pieces. Let's call them out. Let's attack. Let's explain how they could be better. Let's work harder to be better ourselves and let's remember how and why these failed, and how they succeeded, if they did. Let's understand that none of this will change the fact that I love them. And it doesn't need to, because that's not what we're talking about here. That's not what we're trying to change.

If you have an interest in history and African history in particular, you should take a look at her journal.
