the_grynne linked to this review at Televisionary about the new BBC miniseries Occupation. It's about three British ex-soldiers who return to Iraq after their tour of duty has ended. One is seeking love, the other money, the third is going back for altruistic reasons. It sounds very interesting, especially for people who like Generation Kill or Band of Brothers like productions. It premiered on BBC America on Sunday, Oct. 18. Did anyone watch it? What did you think?

Zyklus erotischer FanFiction um Captain Picard

Obwohl Frauen im Internet der 90er Jahre deutlich in der Unterzahl waren, taten sich einige von ihnen doch als Produzenten von Erotika hervor. In vielen Fällen war Text das Medium ihrer Wahl. So schrieb eine blinde Amerikanerin, die sich in Patrick Stewarts Stimme verliebt hatte - einen Zyklus erotischer FanFiction um Captain Picard, der viel Aufmerksamkeit auf sich zog. Im deutschen Sprachraum erreichte die Autorin „Sab“ mit ihrer SM-Phantasie „Meine Geschichte“ ähnliche Bekanntheit. Was der Frauenbewegung nicht gelang: Durch das Internet fand nun auch weibliche Pornographie ihre Plattform.

Merlin is still cute when it's good, but I'm pretty much out of patience when it comes to the show's race & gender issues. And I hate Gaius. So much.

But, hey, not throwing stones here. I'm sorta watching Stargate 90210 because I am head over heels in love with one of the female characters. The show is crap (duh) but TJ, the medic, is made of undiluted awesome. I can't decide if I want to marry her or have her be my new BBF. (Sorry, Becca!)

Ha! The German Bundesverfassungsgericht (contitutional court - kinda like the US Supreme court) says homosexual civil-union partners have the same rights as heterosexual married partners when it comes to widow(er)'s pensions for federal employees. (very bad translation) Though shalt not discriminate.

Wenn der Staat Lebenspartnerschaften schlechter behandle als Ehen, bedürfe es dafür besonderer Gründe, urteilten die Verfassungsrichter. Diese lägen aber bei der Hinterbliebenenversorgung nicht vor. Schließlich hätten auch Ehepaare nicht immer Kinder. Und umgekehrt gebe es auch Lebenspartnerschaften mit Kindern, etwa aus vorangegangener Ehen.

Das Verfassungsgericht nahm den Fall zugleich zum Anlass für fundamentale Bemerkungen zu Ehe und zur Lebenspartnerschaft. Diese laufen darauf hinaus, dass eine Gleichbehandlung von Lebenspartnern und Ehegatten geboten ist. Das Hintertürchen für eine Ungleichbehandlung wurde damit zugemacht.

Next stop: full adoption rights? Not while CDU/CSU are still boycotting, sadly.
