Kings 103 - life is a stage

Mar 30, 2009 18:51

This episode was awesome. We got more insight into so many characters and relationships. And the intro continues to give me goosebumps.

Rose really is the consumate politician. Life is a stage, the royal family is the performance, and for better or worse Rose believes in it. She believes in the myth she herself created. I bet she would make one hell of an enemy if you dared to threaten that. David, beware. Am I the only one who hears a hint of distain whenever Rose talks to her daughter? Like when she told Michelle that "You can't expect him to give you everything." in regard to her health care reform. That was one hell of a low blow. And her reaction to Michelle's "I thought you loved ballet." was pretty damn telling, too. It's understandable for someone as pragmatic as the queen to frown at such dreamy idealism. Even, or especially, when it's the own child. I wonder how much Silas' clear favouritism for Michelle plays into it. Talk about fucked up family dynamics.

Thomasina continues to be made of pure awesome. I wonder if we will get to see her tangled up in her loyalties at some point. She is like an all-knowing shadow. How would you call her position? It that what a 'chief of staff' does?

Oh, Michelle. I like you, but stop being dumb. Your idealism is commendable but also so damn painful. I wonder if this is what Silas loves about her, though. I find it interesting how she is described by others in this episode: flighty, changable, quick to lose interest, no one's ever good enough, ice queen.

David: "I'm no saint." Prove it. Until then, ahahaha! I continue to be unimpressed. You need layers, my friend.

Silas, you actually made me feel for you. That is no small feat. Bravo. "You're a pure thing found in the woods." This little side-family is his respite, his refuge, his serenity. I wonder if he gave it all up for the kingdom and power, or to find grace in god's eyes once more. A bit of both, I reckon.

Jack omg. You beautiful, messed up boy; I love you to pieces. Your front of depravity is almost sweet now that we've seen your boyfriend. Joseph is adorable and seems like a really nice guy. And he loves you, idiot. Did you hear that? He misses you. Stop lashing out at him because you're drowning in self-loathing. Okay, tinhat speaking, but why did they mirror Jack's words to Joseph "stay away" with his warning to David? I'm reading too much into that, right? Right. And the balcony scene. *heartclench* His goddamn voice broke. You dumb, vengeful boy. Also, crown pimp! That's going on an icon ASAP.

I can't quite make myself care about Samuels. I thought the rearranging of Silas' creepy painting was a nicely petty touch, though. Or was there some significance to the action I missed. "Our blood, our lands" creeps me out, I have to admit. And I find the idea strange that Silas made the land safe for men of faith. Are we to understand priests were persecuted?

I loved seeing the two guards again. They are great.

Also, Kings is starting to need a disclaimer: no animals were hurt in the making of this show. *facepalm*

PS. I am listening to the Gilboa Radio podcast right now but I am fairly sure I won't make it to episode two. The guy was just talking about the scene in the pilot when David discovers the piano and sits down to play. Podcast guy said he noted David mentioning the composer so he went to find out if the composer was real and then was all excited when he actually was. The composer in question? Franz Liszt. I love podcasts but I can't take that much dumb.
