Prague, at nightfall and at christmastime, is beautiful. or the old square, to be specific. we'd been there in the daylight but we were on our way back after the sun had set and I rounded the corner and gasped because the giant christmas tree was all lit and even brighter and more outstanding in the darkness. and there was a choir singing christmas carols, acapella! and the red-tented stalls were lit as well, and people were bustling around buying food, AND THE CHOIR WAS SINGING, and we shared hot mead in the cold amid the drizzle that was starting up again. I was so happy my heart wanted to burst. so soaring-swelling-singingly beautiful-happy.
which was all the more notable because we'd walked a fair bit in the cold, cold rain that had gone on for hours and my shoes and socks were starting to soak through.
also, the Charles Bridge at night is wonderful because you can see the city lights go on and on across the water, but this was much more expected than the Old Square. part of the magic of the moment, I think, was that I wasn't expected it at all.
all these I have no pictures of because my camera battery died right before we went there. but I am consoling myself with the thought that maybe those moments weren't meant to be captured in pictures, or even words.
moments,
travel,
bucket list
