it is true what you said / that I live like a hermit in my own head

I went for the death cab for cutie concert at the hammersmith apollo tonight by myself (sneakergaze we were last there for the decemberists! and ambientlight we went there for jónsi!)-- and it was AMAZING. I was constantly delighted by the set list; so many of the death cab songs I really love (mostly from plans and transatlanticism) were played tonight. namely crooked teeth, title and registration, brothers on a hotel bed, soul meets body, we looked like giants and the stunner, marching bands of manhattan.

when the opening notes for marching bands were played I literally clapped my hands to my mouth and probably squeaked a lot and then sang along with more enthusiasm than any of the previous songs, which I previously didn't think was possible. I was so excited okay that song is my favourite song in the entire universe and the song that introduced me to the whole world of alt rock/indie etc music beyond the bubblegum radio pop which I'd only known thus far, and no other song since has been able to top that.)

so yeah, I was SUPER HAPPY. :D

ben gibbard still isn't that chatty, but way more chatty than the singapore gig I went for in 2008 with sneakergaze-- which was way more subdued now that I think of it! that gig seems to have played way less of my favourite songs. in its favour it had tiny vessels and photobooth, but this one had at least four more *___* still and all I am damn lucky to have seen them live twice already.

(bend to squares)
crooked teeth (crowd favourite! and hence super fun)
why'd you want to live here
door unlocked and open
long division
grapevine fires
codes and keys
what sarah said (this was when I remembered how much of a dcfc fan I really am; it's a really good song but also really depressing-- so depressing that I don't actually play it on my itunes ever. but it's a really good song, and it sounded great live.)
I will possess your heart (one of the most lyrically weak death cab songs I've heard, which I couldn't help but think tonight-- but still really well done tonight :D the extended intro works really well live.)
a lack of colour ("we don't really play this song much, but I'll play it for you tonight.")
title and registration (I REALLY LIKE THIS SONG)
you are a tourist
the new year
(company calls)
brothers on a hotel bed (I REALLY LIKE THIS SONG)
soul meets body (I REALLY LIKE THIS SONG)
a movie script ending
we looked like giants (I REALLY REALLY LIKE THIS SONG and was so pleased they played it!)
MARCHING BANDS OF MANHATTAN (AKJASDKSJFKJSDNFKJNDFG AAAAAAA)

encore:
I will follow you into the dark (ben gibbard alone, on the accoustic guitar, with all the spotlights softly shining on him. very nice!)
(blacking out the friction)
st peter's cathedral
styrofoam plates (what a depressing song)
cath
transatlanticism (of course they ended with transatlanticism! I knew there was no way they weren't playing it-- I was just expecting it before the encore.)

concerts, bucket list
