William scanned the windows of the little shops on Main Street, thinking through his dilemma. As it was the season, he wanted to find the perfect gift for his sweet Dru. Of course, he hadn’t taken into account the difficulty of finding a present after sundown. To top it off, he was beginning to get a headache thinking about how to not only find the perfect gift, but perhaps the best way to obtain it.

A sound of a voice down the next street reminded him that he still hadn’t eaten. Obviously, once his hunger was sated, he would be free of this pain in his head, and better able to solve his present problem. He peeked around the corner, idling on his side of the building.

Two men were bidding each other a good evening, and Merry Christmas. One man swiftly entered the building, and locked the door behind him. To the sound of the key turning in the lock, the other man turned, walking farther away from Main Street. William was pleased. With his casual gait, he began to tail the man.

As he turned towards a quiet street, caught in the shadows between lighted lamps, William overtook him, grabbed him swiftly and herded him into the deepest shadows. His face shifted, crinkling with demonic influence.

“Now, I don’t normally settle for such a boring taste of blood as yours, but in this busy time of year, I suppose we all must make do.” The man tried to protest, push the vampire away, but there was no contest. William the Bloody had shopping to get to, after all, so he’d have to make his meal quick.

Wiping the blood from his mouth, William wandered back towards the quaint little shops of the small town. He felt much better, but still was at a loss for gift ideas. He glanced through the last shop window, then looked again. There, laid out on a cream pillow, was a beautiful necklace. The metal work was dark, a mess of curlicues and flower petals. The centerpiece was a deep red ruby, glinting like fresh blood.

“Now there is a gift for my Dru,” he said, looking at the window again. The shop was closed, of course. But then again, was he really about to pay for it? It was a gift for Dru, not for that idiotic Cecily.

He smashed a hand through the window, grabbed the necklace, and calmly walked away.

*~*~*~*~*

“Here, Dru, this one is from me.” William handed her the wrapped gift and she carefully examined it, turning it over in her hands.

“Awful small,” she said.

“Don’t you worry, Dru. I got you something, too.” Angelus flourished his hand at the large box sitting on the floor. It came up to his hips, to William’s disgust.

“Well, it’s not the size that counts, is it?” William said, feeling slighted.

“Now, now, boys. None of that fighting during the holidays.” Drusilla began opening William’s gift, sighing with a soft ‘oh’ when the ruby came to view. She held it up to her neck and looked in the mirror.

“Do you like it?” William asked.

“Put it on me.” William complied, fastening the hook in back. It looked perfect on her.

“Open mine! Open mine!” Angelus was nearly hopping with glee. Drusilla grinned at him, then pulled the sheet from the gift. It was a cage, and inside was a sleeping child.

“Oh, Angelus!” she said, peering between the bars.

“I found a blond for you. You like blonds, don’t you?” She giggled, licking her lips. “It screamed itself to sleep about an hour ago, but I’m sure if you poke it, it’ll provide some lovely play.”

Drusilla was delighted, but William just scoffed at it. Anyone could go and find a snack for Christmas. Jewelry was far superior.

Bloody Angelus.
