firsts & lasts
We're still at the age when we're experiencing more firsts than lasts: first fuck, first serious relationship, first apartment, first real job, first drink, first legal drink, first credit card, first marriage?, etc. And when you have a first, you're very aware that it's a first. It's exciting or nerve-wracking, maybe a little depressing, but whatever you're feeling, it's because you're thinking about how it's a first; nothing packs a punch like a good important first.
Lately, thanks to my evil grandfather, I've been seeing a lot of old people, and they've reached a point in life when they're more about lasts than firsts. The thing about lasts, though, is that you aren't always conscious of it the same way you are with firsts. So do you think that, when you're having sex for the last time ever, you KNOW it's your last time ever? Do you have any idea? Do you perhaps reach a point in life where you start thinking that each fuck might be your last? Or maybe you don't know, and then ten years later on your deathbed do you go out thinking, If only I'd known that was gonna be the last, I'd have put in so much more effort?
