Did Xemnas expect anything else from Saïx? Not at all. He'd baited his former second-in-command, knowing full well that the chance of 'talking,' his preferred method of dealing with conflict, was probably less that 1 percent.

He was sitting in a chair, resting his cheek on hand, elbow on the armrest, planning how to handle this volatile situation, waiting, as if knowing he's going to have a visitor.

The rattling only proves his theory, and Xemnas is up, walking to the door. So predictable. Maybe he knew Saïx too well, but that did not mean he should underestimate the diviner. He knew better than that. One hand moved to the door, the other was by his side, already sparking with energy should he need to defend himself, or attack.

The door is opened, and he remains as calm as ever, staring at his irate visitor, as if deliberately baiting the diviner some more.

"Yes, Saïx?"

Frigid golden eyes speared Xemnas when he finally appeared in the doorway. Fangs gleamed behind thin lips as Saix sneered, a horrid smile full of unspoken pain, suffering and finally, death.

"Come, Xemnas," he entreated in a rough baritone, "step down and greet me." Lunatic flashed a lovely silver as the Diviner's wrist twitched in heady anticipation. "Squirreling away like a craven coward is hardly an example to your subordinates, you know."

Xemnas' expression doesn't change, not even under the vicious gaze and the threatening posture that he's greeted with. He's seen that face before.

"Your temper betrays you," is a calm reply to Saïx's twitch rather than to the first imperative comment. There's still no aggression from Xemnas, not even a flicker; he knows Saïx will snap first. The second comment he's not so willing to ignore, but still he has an answer. He always will have.

"Coward? No. Unlike you, I am not driven by impulses or my temper. One must learn of their surroundings and of those around them. However, I should not have to explain my actions to you as your superior now should I?"

Saix snorted. "I have not lost my temper yet, Xemnas," he defers coolly, then his gaze sharpened and focused, growing colder if possible. "You've not yet seen my rage, Nobody."

The Diviner stood still, a pylon of azure and gold in the island's sunset. But he knew Xemnas would not deign to attack first; no, the Superior preferred to handle battles with words, not action. A nuance Saix had always found infuriating.

His cold voice seethed like a snake across the compound. "You betrayed me, Xemnas. Left me to die at the hands of that boy and destroyed my Heart!"

Yet? And yet had the diviner not howled and cracked the concrete upon arrival? That was a blatant display of tempter if Xemnas had ever saw one, but all he did was note the subtle changes, "I have not? I know full well what you are a capable of, Saïx ( ... )

True enough; Saix was wallowing in his denial, but so it stood. Lunatic gleamed in anticipation as the Diviner lifted the massive blade, it aiming straight at Xemnas in steadfast challenge.

But he was not going to be sucked into a drawn out word-duel with the Nobody. He knew far better than that.

"Take up your blades and face me, Xemnas," Saix snapped, "else I will kill you where you stand."

And still he stared down the weapon at his once second in command with no fear, no show of emotion, and no show of bravado, even as it gleamed dangerously at him. If he was honest, his own patience was wearing thin with Saïx, but to show that to the diviner was out of the question.

"Ah, so now you are threatening me because you cannot handle your own loss, and so it easier for you to blame me? How predictable and typical," He knew full well he, himself, lost to the keyblade wielder, but this wasn't about his failure now was it? They'd both lost.

But there's still no weapons, not yet, but the energy is certainly crackling and sparking in the hands by his side. Orange eyes were watching for tensing muscles, the right moment to either bring up a guard wall, or block with his aerial blades. Maybe it's time to put his former second back in his place, where he belongs.

"Your temper is talking once again, Saïx."

Saix knew Xemnas wouldn't just stand there and let himself be killed, but by all the Hearts, he'd meant what he said and Xemnas had made his choice.

Rather than answer with words, the Diviner whipped the massive blade back and then forward, sending a beam of pure white energy streaking for the cabin's porch. While not nearly as powerful as it should be thanks to the island's dampening aura, it was still strong and bright, seeking its target with massive ferocity.
