This may be somewhat out of A_A's province, and if it is I apologize and have no problem with its being deleted (or deleting it myself). I just thought that this is a community that's fairly likely to include someone who knows the answer to my question.
A little over a year ago, the home page of a university English department's site featured an article written by a faculty member about a previous student. I think the student was an undergraduate, but in any case was definitely involved in the English department as either a major or a grad student. She was extremely promising, but struggled with mental illness and eventually ended up leaving academia and becoming homeless. Some time later, the professor, who had known and taught her, wrote the featured story to try to trace what had happened to her.
My problem: I can't remember any of the names of people involved, nor even the name of the school. All I know is that it was a large American university with a top-twenty English PhD program, quite possibly though not definitely an Ivy. The professor was male and the student was female.
Is anyone familiar with the story or the piece of writing I'm talking about? Thanks in advance for any help, and I apologize for being so vague on the details.
