Sending CV's

Mar 08, 2009 20:33

I will be defending my thesis in the next few months and am interested in sending out CV's to universities in my local area. I have a term contract post at this time, but would like to see what other possibilities may be in the area. Some are hiring for positions in my field - most, however, are not. My family is fairly tied to the area and would prefer to stay 'round these parts if at all possible. To that end, I was wondering the opinion of THE COMMUNITY regarding sending out unsolicited CV's and the like (sending to university departments that do not list an open position at this time). In your experiences, is this a breach of etiquette? a useless endeavour? not a bad idea? it all depends? I'm in the humanities if that makes a difference . . .

I have looked around the archives and haven't seen anything along these lines, but I apologize in advance if I've missed anything.

Thanks everyone . . .
