Quick question from a thesis-writing doctoral candidate in literature . . .
What are your opinions regarding the use of a personal voice ("As we discussed earlier . . ." and "In the following chapters I will demonstrate . . ." for example) in the thesis?
Throughout my academic career I have encountered a wide variety of opinions on the matter and I often find myself at a crossroads when writing those rhetorical signposts . . . Do I stay "disengaged" from the text or jump right on in?
Published writing goes both ways in my experience . . .
Thoughts would be interesting . . . Thanks!
