Question for the political scientists out there

May 31, 2007 09:56

This question comes from a history student, so apologies in advance if it sounds strange to those of you in a position to answer it.

I'm wondering if any of you could recommend works on the role of the military in developing-world states. I'm looking (as part of my Honours thesis) at the ways in which the Turkish and Indonesian armies have behaved, and there's a reasonable level of literature to get through specifically related to those countries. What I'd love to find, though, is something with a more broad-based perspective - a sort of "politics of army rule" or "politics of coups d'etat and juntas" if there is such a thing.
Any and all recommendations gratefully accepted.
