Director of Overseas Programs & Partnerships

The Center for International Education is a comprehensive international
education office that is dedicated to improving and increasing access to
international education opportunities for UWM students, faculty, and the
Milwaukee community. As the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's central
coordination point for international education programs and services,
CIE coordinates both on-campus and overseas academic programs,
inter-institutional partnerships, international student and scholar
services, faculty research and publications, and educational and public
outreach programs. CIE is interested in hiring a senior study abroad
professional who is committed to collaborating with colleagues across
CIE in support of a larger vision for the campus and the community. The
Director of Overseas Programs and Partnerships will be expected to
develop and implement plans for increasing student participation,
fostering faculty involvement, and evaluating and improving the array of
UWM-sponsored overseas programs.

Responsibilities: The Director of Overseas Programs & Partnerships
provides leadership for all aspects of the Overseas Programs team's
daily operations, supervising staff while planning future team
objectives and overseeing their implementation. The Director plans and
monitors budgets and initiates income-generating programs and
activities, evaluates and improves existing programs, and develops new
programs consistent with the campus's curricular goals and objectives,
while remaining ever cognizant of the need to build faculty support and
diverse student participation in the programs. S/he serves as the
senior campus specialist in the areas of overseas study, exchange,
internship and service learning programs and inter-institutional
agreements, and ensures the efficient and effective operation of campus
programs and services in these areas.

Qualifications: Minimum: CIE is seeking a hard-working and reliable
professional administrator with a Master's degree in a related field and
at least seven years' related experience in international education
program administration. Strong supervisory and program management
(including budget management) skills are required. Strong
problem-solving and communication skills and an ability to work well
with others, including staff, colleagues, students, faculty, and
university administrators, are essential. Prior personal experience
studying abroad is required. Preferred: Preference will be given to
those candidates who demonstrate a commitment to and substantial
experience in establishing and utilizing mechanisms for ongoing program
evaluation and improvement. Candidates should possess a strong network
of contacts in the field and a proven track record in developing and
implementing financially sound overseas study, service learning, and
internship programs for students with a variety of academic and career
interests. Experience developing revenue sources in support of overseas
programs or student scholarships, a high level of proficiency in at
least one foreign language, an earned PhD, overseas work experience, and
at least three years' experience working in an institution of higher
education are highly desirable.

Appointment Type/Salary: Probationary Academic Staff position with
excellent benefits. Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and
experience.
