This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Suez Crisis and the world's first designated UN peacekeeping mission. UNA-Canada’s 50th Anniversary of UN Peacekeeping project has several activities to raise public awareness and foster dialogue on Canada’s peace and security policy-past, present and future.

The project consultant will develop education materials for young Canadians of high school age. These resources will engage young Canadians using a variety of multi-media approaches including print materials, internet sites, audio-visual products, etc. Collectively, the aim is to develop a new generation of solution seekers who are knowledgeable about Canadian contributions to defence, diplomacy and development.

Duties:

- Build on the existing bibliography of education resources on UN peacekeeping;
- Undertake informal consultations with relevant stakeholders;
- Draft education materials on peacekeeping to integrate into existing curriculums;
- Undertake focus group sessions across Canada, testing the resource and gaining feedback;
- Finalize the education product’s content, design and layout;
- Develop an outreach and dissemination strategy for the final product;

The Research Consultant will report to the Project Officer.

Qualifications:

1. Experience as a researcher on int'l peace & security issues;
2. Knowledge of UN Peacekeeping and Canada's contribution required;
3. Interest in high school education activities and curriculums;
4. University degree or equivalent in poli sci, int'l relations, or social sciences;
5. Excellent writing skills and ability to condense large amounts of information;
6. Excellent organisational and time-management skills;
7. Ability to work independently and in a small team environment;
8. Bilingualism an asset.

This position is a part-time four month contract (1 Dec 2006 - 30 March 2007). The application deadline is Friday, November 17, 2006.
