Hi, got your question.

The Sherpa is another RPLer already working in the public service and their "job" is to facilitate your entry. Once you have been selected, you have the chance for one paid trip to Ottawa (usually for about 3 days) during which a you will have a number of interviews in the departments you select (though your Sherpa will also give you advice on likely depts. and also ones you may not have thought of). These interviews are often with many high up people -- people you likely won't work for directly but who can move mountains to get you a position. During this time, they will also arrange for you to take a language test to assess your level of bilingualism, but if you don't get a high level, don't worry... they can send you on training.

The shortest that the entire RPL recruitment process takes is about 8 months from start (the day you put your application online) until the day you start working. This is about the same amount of time it takes to apply for a professor position.

Most successful RPLers say that the interview was easy... the unsuccessful find it hard. And that's all I can really say about it.

Good Luck!

J.
