Tuesday afternoon on the outskirts of town

Dec 27, 2005 17:55

The brothers had been up early during the day and got started with CJ's car. Stripped down, all parts that could be salvaged were set aside for cleaning and a check. Everything was made ready and all they needed was for the parts Loz arranged to have shipped to show up ( Read more... )

"I'll get us over there then let you loose on your own," Loz said in Geoff's ear. "And you are doing great so far. Now I'm just taking you where you can go up several gears and practise breaking."

Taking off across the island, Loz got them to one of the beaches and to a fairly secluded spot. It being colder weather, not many people would be out.

He got off the bike and clapped Geoff on the shoulder. "Go up four and break, turn and come back."

Taking a deep breath, Geoff nodded and went through a quick mental checklist of everything he was supposed to do. Then he accelerated, headed up the beach, and went up the gears one by one.

It was when it came time to brake that he had the trouble, lost his balance at the change and then lost control of the bike as well. It skidded on its side, dragging Geoff along under it for a ways until it lodged in the sand and stopped.

Loz saw the wobble during braking and was in motion, racing down the beach at top speed. He slid to stop right at the bike and down to one knee next to Geoff. "Hey," he said. His voice was perfectly calm when addressing Geoff and wouldn't have admitted that his heart was racing triple time. "That was pretty good."

Before he would move the bike, he needed a body check. "How are you?"

"Ow, fuck!" was Geoff's immediate reponse.

After a quick inventory, though, he added, "All in one piece, I think. My foot hurts like the devil, and I have sand in places that I really didn't want sand. But otherwise, I think the biggest problem is that I appear to be caught underneath some sort of large, loud machine."

At least he still had his sense of humor. After a quick inspection under the bike to make sure he didn't take Geoff's foot off if he moved the bike, Loz chuckled and stood up. "Hold still," he said, reaching over to switch the bike off.

He straddled Geoff's body and hooked his hands beneath the frame. With a slow exhale, Loz lifted the bike off of Geoff and balanced it once it was upright. "Can you move?"

"If the alternative is that you drop that thing on me? Trust me, I can move."

Geoff slid carefully out from under the bike, trying not to move his foot too much until he had a chance to make sure it wasn't broken.

"I don't think I broke anything. Although I don't think I'll be walking on this foot until I get it in some cold water. Give me a hand up?"

One hand on the bike to keep it steady, the other, Loz extended down to Geoff to help him to his feet. "You can wade out into the water or wait until we get back home."

"I think it'll be all right until we get back. If soaking doesn't help it, I'll go into the clinic tomorrow."

He took hold of Loz's arm and pulled himself up, hopping a little to keep his weight off the foot and leaning a bit on the man.

"Well, I guess this means you'll be driving back."

"Yeah." Loz said. He swung onto the bike and started it up. "I'm..." Now he felt bad that Geoff was injured after he had promised the man he'd not let him fall. "Yeah..."

Carefully getting on behind Loz, Geoff leaned forward and said into his ear, "Hey, I'm all right. I fell off the first time I tried to ride a horse, too. Second and third times, for that matter."

He pressed a quick kiss to Loz's jaw and then settled against his back for the ride home.

The trip was quick since the island isn't that big and Loz waited until Geoff was off the bike before killing the engines. "Well," he said, leaning against the seat. "You didn't do half bad for your first time considering this bike is a big machine to learn on."

Geoff laughed. "I didn't break my neck, so as far as I'm concerned it was a success. Don't suppose you'd give me a hand getting up those stairs, would you?" he asked, pointing at the porch steps.

Grinning, Loz pushed up from the bike and tangled his hand in Geoff's hair for a hard, but fast, kiss. And with no warning, picked Geoff up and carried him, not only into the house, but up the stairs to the bathroom, depositing him gently in front of the small sink.

To say that Geoff was surprised was an understatement. He would have protested, even, if he hadn't been so surprised. And, well...if it hadn't been just a little bit intriguing to be picked up and carried off in that way.

To cover his reaction, he gave Loz a light smack on the arm when they reached the bathroom. "Unhand me, oaf!" he demanded, grinning, and then running a hand through Loz's hair to let the man know that he was only teasing.

"Do you mind if hog your tub for a while -- or do you have a basin?"

"Oaf? I've been called a lot of things but I have no idea what that is." Loz leaned in and postively purred. "But it sounds sexy coming from you."

He gestured in the closet behind the door. "Towels are there, as you already know and as far as I'm concerned, take your time in here. I'm downstairs if you need anything."

Geoff chuckled. "It's not the worst thing I can come up with to call a person, I assure you." With a quick kiss, he reached past Loz and pulled open the closet for a towel, and then sat down on the edge of the tub to run the cold water for his foot.
